Week 9 Irrelevant Rankings

A lot of teams haven’t beaten anyone great. Michigan State is one of them. They’re still solid
Yeah, I’d I’ve been saying all season Michigan State is over ranked.

The reality is that there are not many good teams this year, so even a win against UCLA is good enough to jump them up a few spots.

Alright, but I don’t want to hear any bitching from you when other teams jump in the rankings because they beat a mediocre team

I would call them semi solid

Oregon isn't making the CFP, so it doesn't really matter.

I think they’re ranked appropriately given what’s happened so far.

Don't be a dunce. It was a 3-pt loss, on the road at night, to the 14th ranked team.

Rankings now >>>>> rankings from 3-4 weeks ago.

Those undefeated teams need to quit leaving it up to the voters. If they get dropped for looking like hammered dog shit, then that's their fault.
I mean kind of..... but the only reason A&M is rated at all is the win over Bama so basically youre giving Bama bonus points for losing to a ranked team who wouldnt be ranked if Bama had beat them

A loss instead of a win does have that affect.

Sometimes but not always

If MSU beats Michigan this week itll be an actual loss to a ranked team for Michigan because MSU will be ranked whether they win or lose

Thats not the case with A&M. Theyre ranked solely based on beating Bama so i have a tough time crediting the Tide for a ranked loss

lmao, i feel the same about Wake tbh.

I don't think Wake is all that good, but i'm starting to get hopeful that the ACC is so bad this year that the Deacs won't get exposed until bowl season

Who has Cincinnati beaten that is significantly better than Wake? Notre Dame? Give me a break, speaking of overrated.

You can lose to an unranked team, just come off beating a 4-3 scrub, and still get vaulted into the top 3, and over unbeaten teams.
cool.
nothing to see here.
You're just mad because Texas isn't back and still sucks donkey dick.

A&M was also ranked #6 in the pre-season it's not like they only got ranked because they beat us. If they hadn't lost Haynes King, they would likely be #2 right now.

At the end of the year which team is going to be ranked higher...Texas A&M, Michigan or Michigan State. Sparty still has to play Michigan, Purdue, Ohio State. Maryland and Penn State. Michigan still has to play Sparty, Indiana, Penn State, Ohio State and Maryland. AtM has Auburn, Ole Miss and LSU.

I going with at least 2 out of the 3 being 3 loss teams by the end of the year and one might be a 4 loss team.

Completely possible and in 3 weeks its highly likely A&M would be ranked even without the Bama win. But my point is really jist based on right now

And right now they would be ranked if they lost to Alabama and beat Mrs State...if wishes were fishes we'd be in scenario village.

Every team would be ranked if they never lost

Thats not the point

The point is should we be rewarding teams who lose to ranked teans who would be unranked othetwise

Philosophically its the same question as do you count a ranked win from when the game was played

If Bama beats number 20 this week and they drop out of the rankings they only dropped out due to Bama beating them so should we not count it as a ranked win ?

Etc etc

IMO, the answer is in the middle. Alabama is not being rewarded for losing to A&M, but they are not being punished for losing by 3 on a walk-off FG on the road as opposed to losing 7-24 at home. They also have a really nice win over Ole Miss (giving the Rebels their only loss).

Personally, I don't hink Alabama should be ranked #3, but I have no problem at all with them being the highest ranked 1 loss team - with the possible exception of Oregon - which won @ Ohio State giving the Buckeyes their only loss and a walk-off road loss of their own @ Stanford in OT.

The Good loss / bad loss thing is silly, but there is a difference in getting housed in a game and losing a nail biter.

I think CFB pollsters and fans focus way too much on who a team lost to and by how much

Wins are more indicative of what a team is capable of.

Losses are overvalued in that any team can play like shit one week out of 13.

But we tend to look at that one week they played bad and somehow assign more credence to that week than we do the other 11 or 12 games

Its a truly weird feature of CFB
