Soooooooooo, not playing conference members on a regular basis is nothing new for the SEC?

It was worse prior to 1992, they typically only played 5-6 conference games. However, they played far harder OOC schedules. Tennessee had its OOC schedule loaded with what are now Power 5 teams. It was rare to see a UL Monroe or one of those teams on the schedule (you might get 1 a year). Reference screenshot from 1985, this was a common SEC Schedule prior to 1992. Only 6 SEC games but you have ACC and Pac12 schools on the schedule:
