At the risk of being an idiot, I’m really asking.

It is him. He was good friends with the band and played sometimes with them. Not uncommon, he's played with a lot of people over the years. Some musicians do that, example, Peter Frampton played with Bowie several times, Eddie Van Halen played on Beat It, etc.
