That sounds like my childhood. Dad did popcorn in a big grocery bag. Had an electric skillet he used. Saw so many movies with family and just us boys. I am sure a drive in theater was where I saw my first but have no clue which one at this age. Cheech and Chong movie? Some B movie with tit's for dad would be my first guess. Second would be Jaws and 3rd CandC. Final answer till I think on it more.Thinking 'The Jungle Book' in like 1967.
My folks liked the drive-in when we were little so we went to a lot of mid/late 60's Clint Eastwood and James Bond movies at the drive-in.
They could pack their own snacks/drinks, and there was a playground for us kiddos to get worn out before the movie started.
My dad was good about taking us to movies as tweeners/early teens .
Young Frankenstein, 10, American Graffiti, The James Bonds, original Star Wars.

We had several in town. One was on a hill right next to a grocery store, and the screen faced the parking lot at an angle. Parents would leave their kids in the cars and go in to shop, and the kids would watch a movie with no sound for half an hour. But then, the drive in started playing pore-knows...Jaws, at the drive-in, remember those?
