I tried flat-soled sneakers a few years ago, and after about 5 weeks, the bottoms of my feet hurt like hell. I prefer running shoes for the gym and garbage like Skechers or Fila for casual walking. The things have horrible quality these days, regardless of brand, so I never spend much on them.

After those few weeks, I'd go 20-30 minutes like for a dog walk, and they'd kill me. I'd work out in other shoes and feel fine. I was probably murdering my arches or something.For me, they are my most comfortable style sneakers. Guess everyone is different.
They make perfect gym shoes, too.
