What was your first car?

As much as my dad loved Fords, we never once owned a pinto. He was too afraid to stick any of his kids in something so small. But he did have a 72 Maverick, for a short time. Grabber hood, 302, but automatic. Basically a stretched out Pinto

This color ^ but with a lot more rust and bondo
We had a shit brown pinto station wagon. Dad rear ended a guy right after we stopped and got burgers. Dude at a stop signs goes and then slams on break. Dad smacked him but not real real hard. We of course lost all of our drinks and fries. I am 100% sure my mom and dad got into an argument over the incident.

81 chevy custom deluxe pickup with a straight six. White. I put a black tool box on it and co-phase cb antennas on it. Had craiggers and Cooper cobra tires. Blacked out windows. I put a '68 vette engine (only two barrel). had a rocking cheap ass stereo Hank Jr. Playing or the Kinks.

I bought an old impala with wings sort of like that. They were not as large though. I think it was like a 67. I was in the Army and picked it up for $500. It got me through a summer. Something happened where gas fumes got into the oil somehow and it blew the manifold covers half off. The bolts stayed in the engine, but the tin covers ripped up. It still ran after that but not too well.

You didn't get a car til after college? Man, I saved up as much paper route money as I could to get my own ride the moment I turned 16 & got my license. ...FREEDOM!... ...Then got a new job right after that to make more money for stereo upgrades, insurance, gas & shit...

Didn’t really need one. I borrowed it for work in hs. And in college all my roommates had a car so I never needed one.

Did you live in NYC when you were a teen? ...i.e. used public transportation to get everywhere?

No. I borrowed the car when I was a teen. I didn’t own my own.

I grew up as the oldest of five kids in a home where my father worked a factory job to pay bills and my mother stayed at home to take care of the large fam. For me, there was no such thing as "borrow the car". Not once did I ever drive my mom's "family transporter" (which was a red Dodge Caravan when I was in my teens) anywhere and the only time I ever drove my dad's car (which was a light pastel green Chevy Celebrity) was when he was teaching me how to drive. From birth to 15, if I wanted freedom of transportation I either walked or rode my bike - and I wanted freedom of transportation frequently because my house was always a zoo.
