I picked up the fiddle pretty quick, but I wouldn't say I was a natural, I had an old guy teach me a lot. Mandolin was self taught, but that's because it's basically a fiddle with frets that you pick. I only started trying to play a guitar a few years ago. Pleased with my progress, but not a natural.
