What would a 12 Team Playoff Look like ATM

Updated again:

1) Georgia - Projected SEC Champ
2) Cincinnati - Projected AAC Champ
3) Oklahoma - Projected Big 12 Champ
4) Ohio State - Projected Big Ten Champ

5) Alabama - At Large #1 vs. 12) Coastal Carolina - Projected Sun Belt Champ

8) Oklahoma State - At Large #4 vs. 9) Michigan State - At Large #5

***6) Michigan - At Large #2 vs. 11) Oregon - At Large #6

***7) Penn State - At large #3 vs. 10) Utah- Projected PAC 12 Champ

@dhoey

Your bracket wouldn't be accurate. If Utah won the PAC 12, with the rankings as they are now, Utah would miss the CFP.

I included the highest ranked team as the projected champions for each conference since it's very early in the season.

Ahh, I put them in because they have the best conference record right now.

Sure but they still wouldn't make the playoffs if they are unranked as they are now. Technically Michigan State has a better conference record than Ohio State but I still projected the Buckeyes as the Big Ten Champions as well.

why the fuck do i see ATM and immediately think aggies.
Yeah I was figuring one of the 'whaaa SEC gets all the glory" nut huggers were just crying again by claiming A&M has a shot at even a 12 team playoff. That shits gotta go to 24 before we are in the conversation.

I must admit, the 12 team format seems way more fun to watch than the current format we have. It still seems like too many teams are in, but it would be fun to watch.

Agreed. There would certainly be some fun games to watch

Give me an 8 team playoff. No byes, no rematches or conference teams playing each other first round. Top 6 ranked Conference champions 2 at large bids.

I actually prefer that as well but the SEC is pushing for more at large bids so it looks like we are getting 12

Everything I've seen including comments from Sankey is that the SEC is fine with 4 teams as it has worked out just fine for us. Everyone that is an SEC fan says that 12 is way too many so I'm not sure where you are getting this.

I like the 8!
Why would the SEC want to help the B1G?

Im not on my computer but I’ll send you a link later if I have time. He’s said they are fine with 4 but if they were to expand, having 6 auto bids and only 2 at large bids was a non starter for the SEC.

I have no idea what the average SEC fans wants but that really has no impact on playoff expansion

That's a different story.

Very much a hard no to that many automatic bids which is ridiculous. There is zero chance you get the best 8 in with that system and it just becomes a welfare program for teams that can't get it done not to mention it would end any kind of incentive for conferences like the PAC to schedule aggressively. Just a bad proposal altogether.

It’s not really a different story, it’s exactly what I said. Like I said, the SEC is pushing for more at large bids. 8 team playoff is better at avoiding rematches and right now it has 7 of the highest 8 ranked teams so it’s silly to pretend you wouldn’t get the major contenders.

I understand Sankeys position though. He wants to optimize opportunities for teams in his conference. That’s his job

Where we are right now and where we are going to be at the end of the year are two different stories.

I could see a situation where you have Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss and Kentucky all with one loss and Oregon sitting there with two losses and an automatic bid playing a much weaker schedule. That's bullshit and welfare.

In the B1G you could have two one-loss teams as well.

Once Texas and Oklahoma leave the Big 12 are we going to give that conference one of six automatic bids?
Where does the sixth automatic bid go anyway? The Sunbelt?

It does not work.

You want to give an auto-bid to the P4 champs then fine but then leave 4 spots at large. Cincinnati would still be in at that point and Oregon right now as well but if Oregon dropped a game them they would be out and the PAC would have no one which is how it should be.
