From a national perspective, USC/ND just doesn't register like the other rivalries do. Just check out the TV ratings, that pretty much tells the story. OSU/michigan regularly is drawing well over 10m viewers (this year was 12.3m, down from 19.1m in 2023). Auburn/Alabama got around 11m this year. For whatever reason I can't find the exact TV ratings for USC/ND this year, but the 2023 game only drew 6.4m. That's even less than games like Ohio State/Penn State or Texas/Texas A&M. I'm not saying it isn't a rivalry, I'm just saying it's not a major rivalry like others.

Yeah, that's because USC has been pretty terrible since like 2010. The ND/USC game was on CBS this year, they're in dispute right now with Nielsen so many of the CBS games don't have ratings. If both teams could ever be elite at the same time, it would pretty easily clear 10+ million. Especially if it was a road game for ND and the last game of the season. There's precedent for a this game to get huge numbers. The 2012 game got over 16+ million and USC sucked that year. That's why I said earlier it can be cyclical. Prior to Harbaugh arriving the OSU/Michigan games weren't clearing 10+ million. Michigan stepping up has definitely helped.

No disrespect to either program, but USC/Notre Dame hasn't even been in the same stratosphere as OSU/michigan in decades. Oklahoma/UT and Auburn/Bama for sure, and I'd even throw in UGA/Florida, but ND/USC hasn't been relevant in ages. It's difficult having a "rivalry" game across the country with someone who already has a rivalry with a team in their city.

No, it hasn't been. Not since Carroll and the "Bush push" era, but I think it could reignite quickly if those two teams had success at the same time for just a season or two.

Honestly, until the last couple of years, the tOSU/UoM rivalry hasn't been much of a rivalry either. From 2000-2019, tOSU was 17-3, including 15 of the last 16. That's like the fierce cola rivalry between Coke and Shasta. By the end of that run, I felt like very few fans outside of the rivalry gave it much respect.

Frankly, I think that's why @MAIZEandBLUE09 has asked @OregonDucks to hold his beer and gone full retard. They say "act like you've been there." He hasn't. His balls hadn't dropped the last time Michigan was an active participant in this rivalry.

OSU/michigan cleared 10m plenty of times prior to Harbaugh arriving. Maybe it wasn't every year, but we also weren't down near 6m in a season. Hell, this year's 12.3m viewers was a 7 year low. That 2012 game you're talking about is an outlier for ND/USC while being the expectation for OSU/michigan. Over the last 12 years, USC/ND averages around 4-5m viewers. It's even been televised on FS1 some years. It's just simply not the same.

I think he and newphone are the only ones on here that act like this thankfully. The other michigan fans are pretty great.

There is no denying, we were your bitch and y'all slapped us around like it. I'll never forget that. 4 in a row isn't enough. I was always worried that ohio state was going to take their foot off the gas, but they didn't. I have as much respect as I do hatred for ohio state. That my friends, is what a rivalry is about!!!

Note: Had we lost I would have worn my "Peckers" with pride!!!

TBF I forgot voltaire is a UM fan because he doesn't say the stupid shit those two you mentioned do.

Between 2007 and 2014 it didn't clear 10+ million one time. 2008, 2009, and 2010 all were in under 7 million viewers. 6.62, 6.77 and 6.86 respectively those years. That's why like I said, if both teams could ever be good at the same time (like OSU & Michigan have been since 2015), the ratings will be better. As well as playing in a close game. Everytime both teams had been good, it's been a blowout. At least dating back the last decade or so.

yeah, but their fat hands means...sad trombone

No question there. You, my friend, have proven that over and over again. And over. And over. And over. And over. . .

Probably, because many just look at the current situation ... ohio state was whooping us those years. I can tell you that most ohio state/Michigan fans were watching it!!! In Michigan, the bars were full and the talk was all about The Game. Whether is was Wolverine fand or Sparty praying that Michigan loses.

I feel like you're proving my point further. 2008-2010, michigan was dreadfully awful and it still drew more fans than ND/USC in 2023 when ND was ranked 21st and USC was 10th. I'm not sure what it will take for USC/ND to get to the level from a national perspective as the top tier rivalries on a consistent basis, but whatever that is I've never seen it.

The 2023 game wasn't close though, and was basically over at the half. Being ranked 10th and 21st also aren't two elite teams. If there are stakes the game will draw very well, maybe not at the level of OSU/Mich, but still very good. The Bush Push game was the highest rated regular season CFB game since 1996. Beat the following year by OSU/Michigan. Also, I'm under no illusion, but OSU has the biggest fan base IMO, so competing with that is difficult. But if ND/USC can ever have a top 5ish matchup the ratings will be great. But that hasn't happened since the Bush Push game.
