they just signed MIchael Harris II - 8 years 72 million dollars... dang... future perennial all star

plus they recently signed

Matt Olson - 8 years 168 million dollars
Austin Riley 10 years 212 million dollars

AA has the braves contending for a long time in the future.

and we are still in Albies cheap contract

The Atlanta Braves have locked up another one of their young stars after they reportedly agreed to an extension with second baseman Ozzie Albies.

The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported the news. Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported the deal is for $35 million over seven years with two option years.

The Braves already locked up reigning National League Rookie of the Year Ronald Acuna Jr. with an eight-year, $100 million extension that includes two option seasons.

Not gonna be funny when they find out that Alex is now running Epstein Island.

This may be one of the best threads in the history of internet message boards.

Harris has been great as a rookie and his floor is a great defensive CF with great speed, so he’s easily worth that. Makes sense for Harris too to get paid now and not play for peanuts in his pre arbitration years, and he’s the youngest player in the league, if he hits his ceiling, he’ll still be young enough to get a big contract when this one is up

Why would they sign a rookie to an 8 year deal?

They had him under control for 7 anyway.

They did the same thing with Acuna, which kinda pissed me off that I had to watch Preston Tucker man right field while they needlessly did their service time manipulation bullshit

The best GM in the world. And it ain't even close

Because they actually have him under contract now for 10 years with the team friendly options that are possibly well below what he may be worth at the time. You spend a little more up front to keep the team core in tact long term. So hopefully they aren't having to outbid the yankees and dodgers to stay competitive in 5+years.

It's risky, because one of or multiple of these guys won't work out. Some may regress or get injured. But if you have hit on the majority, it allows you to keep talent long term and still go out in free agency and spend on reliable players.

I didn’t know there were two club option seasons at the end of the deal.

That’s makes more sense than an 8 year deal. Which made no sense to me.

Very happy I picked this kid up in dynasty a couple weeks before they brought him up.

Reasonable deal

Even jdif he turns into victor robles the Braves still likely come out ahead

Harris has arguably been the better player and is slightly younger

and another one

This one is more risky. It’s back loaded and Strider is a bigger injury risk than most. Pretty well just buys out his arbitration and has a team option that could potentially make it a 90 million dollar deal.
