Island fever is a real thing. Knew a guy who was on the Supreme Court of Palua, which is a life time appointment, and left after 4 years because it felt like ground hog day.
It‘s a plus and minus situation that you really have to want.

i love the Kona area. Years ago I looked at property in the Keauhou Estates. It’s just up the mountain a bit from Alii Dr. I decided to pass bc as much as love Kona it was just too small for me. There’s lots to see/do on the Big Island as a tourist but not enough for me if you are a resident. Instead, I bought a place on Oahu. I’ve owned a few places over there in fact but I’ve finally settled on the one I want. It’s in a good area and over the years I’ve been able to make some quality friendships. Before Covid I went quite often (about every 4-6 weeks). It’s an easy flight from Vegas but since Covid I haven’t been back. In fact, the last time I was there was Jan 2020 (just before Covid hit).
Buying land... moving to the woods. Trying to get the homestead as close to off the grid as possible.
If I moved in with Juice, then that would make me a snowbird too. Is that what you do when you go there?
I have already been informed, we’re moving somewhere near wherever our daughter settles down. Because I guess fuck the boys.

I honestly have no idea at this point what the future will hold. My kids are in the process of leaving the nest and I might decide to run a new branch of the company when we expand again.
That said, I like where I am now: quiet & spacious place amongst farmland & woods, but only a few minute drive to get whatever supplies I might need. The vast majority of my family and extended family live in the area. Natural disasters are of little concern here. And I ain't afraid of cold.
If I do move or or go the snowbird route eventually, every next place I live will require the same serenity and solitude amongst nature that I have now. ...definitely no condos or apartments or subdivisions or retirement communities or campgrounds.
And hell, if the U.S. keeps marching towards becoming Western China, I might move to New Zealand or some shit.
