Who Does Oklahoma talk to, throw a name in the hat.

The landscape is changing. The new default is going to be be 1.5x of what it is now. You and OU are proceeding from an old playbook. It’s being rewritten right now, in case you haven’t noticed.
Fuck that I take Harsin at 5mm for 6 years before I give Venable a 10mm deal. Too much risk.

I’d buyout Huepel as he is more proven.

Aranda
Campbell
Fickle

Venable at 10mm is a hell no.

At this point OU is willing to do whatever it takes to get into a position to seriously compete for National Championships. No more tutti frutti offense with a side order of curdled D. The program's been through a lot in the past 10 years and lessons have been learned the hard way. A good coach and a good program cost a lot of money but getting back to an elite level is gonna require oodles of cash and a total commitment to coaching and recruiting. No more BS. OU's got two ways to go from here: pay the piper or fall back and never recover. This is Oklahoma's watershed moment.

Riley (who'd never been a HC) was making $7.5 mil/year for 6 years at Oklahoma.

The new norm (this year) for big boy schools has been set at 10 years.
He won conference championships before he got that though. Shit is officially off the rails.

What the fuck have you been through before this year? 6 straight conference championships and two Heisman winners? Poor you as the suffering must be terrible.

You‘re panicking for no reason and hopefully your AD has more sense.

Brian Kelly has never won a conference championship or even a CFP game (0-2).

Yet here we are.

"While Kelly’s contract will pay him $95 million total in base salary, a longevity bonus will push his total compensation to at least $100 million over the life of the 10-year contract, which made him the first coach at a public school with a nine-figure deal.
Kelly’s salary will start at $9 million per year his first season. It then rises in increments through 2031.

I get your arguments and I wouldn’t have hired Kelly either with the contract they wrote. Someone is going to be left holding the bag and there aren’t any Sabans out there that everyone is chasing.

Jimbo is way over paid for the results.
Kelly is way overpaid for what he has done.
Riley is being grossly overpaid at USC.

Several of these programs are going to have serious buyers remorse.

I will say this if Oregon goes after Chip Kelly he will probably be worth what he will be paid because it’s a proven commodity there.

If I’m OU I pay Mark Stoops 8 million rather than risk 10mm on Venable which is a safer bet.

Conference championships aren't what OU is all about. It got to the point where another pounding in the ass with an 11-1 team and a conference championship wasn't cutting it. Heisman Trophies aren't even worth talking about when they're compared to winning the Big Enchilada. Like it or not.......understand it or not......OU fans measure coaches/teams by NC's. It's just the way we are. Fuck participation trophies.

I agree!!!

Being how they're all gambles, it's inevitable.

My point isn't about how righteous the contracts are, just that they've become the norm for a known name at big schools.

You still haven’t explained how you’ve “suffered”. That is a ridiculous statement coming from an OU fan and I’ve got news for you it just got so much harder.

You may need to find a therapist because real suffering is coming.

Trust me OU has a handle on this

So you don't understand what OU fans call "suffering". Lemme explain it to you. Getting a train run on us in CFP games, watching our defenses swing and miss every year, seeing the offense look like Tarzan all season and then play like Jane at the worst possible times, knowing our talent level is insufficient, etc. It's one thing to experience occasional seasons like this and know it is temporary because we have recently won a NC but it's something else to see the program go Groundhog Day year after year after year. We are not delusional. It's not going to be easy at all in the SEC. But having the occasional bad years, by OU standards, will be acceptable if we finally improve enough to win the occasional NC. We know the difference between "suffer" and "struggle".

You haven’t won a NC in 20 plus years and it maybe 20 more until you do. That’s reality my friend.

It’s been 40 since Georgia won one and they’ve had some great teams many of them better than anything OU has put on the field. If you idiots go down the we have to compete with Saban rabbit hole then you’ve lost already. So many stupid decisions being made by teams trapped in that delusion.

Find that therapist as you’re going to need one.

OU is 1-1 against Saban. We're not afraid of competing with him or anyone else but we know we're going to have to improve our program to win in the SEC. Texas aggies, Alabama aggies, Oklahoma aggies.............you guys are all like peas in a pod.

Let me make something clear. I'm the rare individual who likes both Auburn and Alabama. I know; that makes me a hermaphrodite in Alabama. But here is something I think you'll find interesting. At a recent OU watch party, about a dozen of us made a list of the 5 teams we thought we'll have the hardest time with in the SEC over the long haul. Only two teams were named on every list: Bama and Auburn. Georgia got the third most votes. Kind of surprisingly, the Mississippi schools were frequently named as potential thorns in OU's side.
