Definitely. I think they will have trouble with Saban but once Saban leaves Bama, I can see a major breakthrough. I think Saban won't be at Alabama much longer.

Have to echo the majority sentiment here.

The rise of these "super conferences" will prevent another Clemson-type rise to power from happening.

The more I think about it, LSU is kind of the perfect Clemson comparison.

LSU was kind of a forgotten program prior to 2001. Sure, people though they were decent at Football like Clemson but they were not in the Elite Conversation. Both had great fanbases and great recruiting grounds. Both had one National Title in distant past (LSU had to go back to 1950s). Both came out of no where and all of a sudden were great.

2003 LSU was a total surprise for me. Watching football prior, it always seemed like Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee were the 3 super powers of the SEC. Georgia always came in a distant 4th. (Auburn had great runs in that era under Pat Dye and the 1993 Terry Bowden season but they were kind of off the radar for me because I didn't watch football at the time. I would not classify Auburn in that boat because Auburn was strongly competitive prior to this and hasn't necessarily been elite. Auburn is like Oregon/Wisconsin if they actually had a National Title).

Basically Clemson was a program that 10 years ago would not be considered ELITE. Now they are one of the strongest programs year-in and year-out. Who is the next Clemson? I listed a few programs that may fit that criteria in the poll.

I did not list other regular Title Contenders, Blue Bloods that lost their way, or Oregon/Wisconsin because the later two are just unique.

It won't be a team out of the SEC or B1G because the dynamics are so much different and so much harder to pull it off. Clemson has the luxury of playing maybe 3 tough games a year before the playoffs so they come in rested and with fewer injuries.

If Oklahoma had stayed in the Big 12 they would be the logical pick but with a move to the SEC, it will not happen.

I would say the teams that have potential:

Oregon - but it will be tough after 2025 and a lower revenue stream to make it happen
FSU - The only thing holding them back is coaching and recruiting
Miami - They've been the Clemson before and could do it again

That's pretty much it but it will be tougher and tougher as the revenue divide gets bigger and bigger.

Yeah, I missed Utah. They would have been good to include. Heck UCF as well. I also missed Virginia Tech although they are pretty down right now. Va Tech was looking good in the early 2000s.

I think you could go back further and include Kansas State and Colorado to that list. KSU almost pulled off an NC, and Colorado did.

Counterargument is that Oklahoma was already elite. Even if you only want to look at recent history. Since the hiring of Bob Stoops in 1999 they won the B12 a ridiculous 14 times and finished within the top 10 in all but 5 years. That includes a national title and multiple appearances in both the BCS title game and CFP. That's 20+ years of sustained excellence no matter how you want to slice it.

The most logical "next Clemson" would probably be from the ACC and coincide with a fall off from real Clemson...and their rise conveniently coincided with the fall off of FSU and Miami.

Don't see the problem when Bama leads the country in scoring margin every year and pulling players by halftime sooner than everyone in the country
