What made Clemson jump to elite possible is where the school is located. They are essentially on the border of Georgia. It is where they get a lot of elite recruits, including the QBs who won them titles -- Watson and Lawrence.I think these teams set up well, because of the money involved.
I don't see any of those other schools having enough money in a few years to put something like that together.

MSU
Iowa
Ole Miss
Arkansas
I'll play devil's advocate ...They aren't going to get there.. sure Gundy has had a few really good teams...that failed to make a championship.. I think he has them at their ceiling, they always seems to fumble at the half yard line from getting to the big stage. He has never been able to recruit like Clemson did even before their breakout seasons.
You ignorant slut, per our new HC, we are going to be the best team in the country:True but it was in the distant past. Teams like Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Vandy have National Titles in distant past as well but it would be a MAJOR Surprise to see any of these 3 programs become super powers.
Minnesota has 4-5 National Titles but they are in the same boat.
Oregon and Wisconsin have been a 10-11 game winner in most seasons the last 20 years. (Wisconsin's rise really goes back to the 1990s actually). I debated putting both on the list but I decided to leave them off because they are unique. Clemson was kind of out of no where. I use LSU actually as an example as well. Prior to 2001, they were kind of in same boat as Clemson (a good program that had a title in distant past but they lived in shadow of other teams).
Your points are if everything goes correctly.. But if he can't recruit better than he has with UT and ou .. once they leave, more of his recruits will likely sign with TN/KY/MSU etc..I'll play devil's advocate ...
- Gundy is a pretty good coach to do what he has done with the talent he has. He's also that sort of quirky guy that Dabo is - that might attract a particular culture that could work.
- The B12 competition is a good comparison to what Dabo had with the ACC. If he gets good, without OU he can win that conference every year and get into the CFP if there are AQs.
- Go look at Dabo's recruiting pre-natty and I think you will be shocked at what you see - he's mostly in the top 15 range, not top 5 or top 3. That came after the nattys. When people talk about the top recruiting teams ... top 3 schools ... believe it or not, Clemson isn't really in that group. 2020 and 2021 are their only top 3 and top 5 classes. Dabo wins with his culture, not necessarily stacking the best 85 as you see with tOSU, Bama, and UGA.
- From a recruiting standpoint, being in Oklahoma is better than being in the north or the west. And with NIL they may be able to figure out how to get top 10 and 15 classes which is what Clemson did.
You say they have reached their ceiling, but the ceiling is about to get lowered when OU leaves. Once and if they get to be the big boys in the B12, maybe they can get to the top 15 and top 10 classes. Right now he's more of a top 35-ish.
That's kind of the point of the thread ... if everything goes correctly, who could be the next Clemson.Your points are if everything goes correctly.. But if he can't recruit better than he has with UT and ou .. once they leave, more of his recruits will likely sign with TN/KY/MSU etc..

MSU will never be able to recruit like Clemson, neither will Iowa, based purely on their location. (Unless they buy a class or two)
I don't know enough about Ole Miss and Arkansas to pass judgement on them, but A&M has shown they are willing to spend the big money to buy recruits, so as long as they will do that -- it is possible they make the jump.
It was a stupid answer. His players know they can't compete with Bama, UGA, LSU. He gets paid a lot of money to come up with an answer that isn't stupid.People laugh at those comments but if you are in your position, you should be telling your kids that. Also the term "best" can be construed to have a multitude of meanings.
I know why you continue to hold onto this so tight -- because I think you finally have realized a top 15 class is essentially the ceiling for Nebraska.Clemson won at an elite level with average 15th ranked classes.
The higher rated classes came after that.
A lot of truth to this. But the Nebraska fans won't like it.I know why you continue to hold onto this so tight -- because I think you finally have realized a top 15 class is essentially the ceiling for Nebraska.
That being said -- Is it possible to win at an elite level with top 15 classes? Depends what you consider elite? Clemson was winning 10-11 games with those classes. All a team has to do is sign a 3 star LB out of Georgia, switch him to RB and have him become a 1500 yard runner, like Wayne Gallman. Or sign the 35th best WR and have him turn into a 1st round NFL pick like Mike Williams out of South Carolina. Then sign the #1 dual threat QB in the country, like they did with Deshaun Watson out of Georgia.
Notice where they are pulling these players from? From right next to them. So yes, a team located on the border of Georgia in the middle of the SEC footprint can definitely sign classes outside the top 10 and still be ultra competitive. Why? Because a 3 star Georgia kid is quite likely better than a 4 star kid out of the majority of the states, because football is life in the south.
The reason why this isn't a feasible route for a team like say, Nebraska -- they won't be able to fill their roster with kids from Georgia and the South, like Clemson is able to.
I went to watch games over the years in Georgia and Texas. My college buddies live there and their kids play football. Georgia, I believe it was Valdosta (I may be pronouncing that wrong). I can't remember who they played but they had thousands of people at the game. It was like watching a damn college game. The entire town/city were at the games.A lot of truth to this. But the Nebraska fans won't like it.
Both high schools in Valdosta are national powerhouses, and Valdosta State is a D2 powerhouse. A lot of good players come out of Valdosta and the surrounding areas.I went to watch games over the years in Georgia and Texas. My college buddies live there and their kids play football. The game i went to watch in Texas was the most insane high school field i've ever seen. It was a damn stadium. My buddies kid played for Allen and they had over 15,000 people at the game. They had pyrotechnics when the teams ran out. It was unreal.
It is like watching a completely different sport than watching a high school game in Michigan and I've got to watch the best of the best teams in Michigan. They'd get rolled in Georgia and Texas.
I don't remember which one it was -- I thought it was just Valdosta high school? They did a Netflix show on the school called Titletown -- 2nd episode they have a pool party and it is at my buddies house. Both high schools in Valdosta are national powerhouses, and Valdosta State is a D2 powerhouse. There's Valdosta High School and Lowndes High School. Both have a shit ton of state titles, Valdosta has a bunch of national high school championshipsI don't remember which one it was -- I thought it was just Valdosta high school? Hmmmmm -- I will have to ask my buddy. Lowndes sounds familiar. I know it was the high school where the top QB from California transferred to, when Cali was cancelling the football season during Covid, and it became a big deal. There's Valdosta High School and Lowndes High School. I don't know about the Cali transfer, but they're probably the biggest HS football rivalry in the state.Hmmmmm -- I will have to ask my buddy. Lowndes sounds familiar. or Oregon/Wisconsin because the later two are just unique.
Come get some. And bring that fuckin horse wth ya.It's okay to call them queers.
