As long as Nico is playing for Tennessee, I see Penn State as the best among those teams.

Okie light has 19 returning starters and they might have the best offensive line in the country. They have the best chance this year of all those teams.

Voted Oklahoma State. Gundy and the Cowboys have hovered around 8-11 wins for over a decade now. That entire time they had an excuse as to why they could never get over the hump as they had Oklahoma and Texas in their conference, so it was understandable.

But now you got to think OK State is top tier of the Big12. Besides Utah they have been the most consistent successful team in the conference and the two big giants are now gone. I would say it's time for OK State to take the next step, otherwise I think Gundy's time is running out.

PSU imo has a very manageable schedule. They do have a 3 game stretch that could make or break them.
Oct 12 @USC
Oct 26 @wisconisn
Nov 2nd Ohio State

I see them going 2-1 in this (loss to the bucks). If that happens they are going to probably finish the regular season 11-1. They miss Michigan and Oregon this year and I don’t see Washington Winning in happy valley.

Penn State and Tennessee are decent picks to make it this year

its not rocket science..

4 big teams
4 $EC teams
1 p5 team
1 B12 team
2 ACC team
Sounds all good and well when there are haves and have-nots in SEC and B1G, but what about when they all beat each other up and your #4 team in one of those leagues has 3 losses while the #2 team in the Big12 has 1?

Never underestimate the power of the mullet to screw his team over.

I think of this group Ped State is the easy bet. They might even make it this year, their schedule is pretty favorable and they have a good shot at finishing 10-2

SEC and B1G teams get in unless one or more of the three losses is to one of the lower or middling teams. They might still deserve it even then if the other two losses were close to one of the big dogs.

Looks like more parity in the Big 12 so the top teams may have several losses. They don’t seem much better than the rest imho.

Such is why I’m not a fan of auto bids. At least not for them getting a bye the first round. I’m of the opinion that the byes should go to the best four teams period. If they are all in the SEC or B1G, so be it.

Again, jmo.

My point being you don't guarantee that many slots to one or two conferences because you have no clue how things will turn out in a couple of years down the road.

Keeping things as vague as possible is the best bet. Guarantee the P4+1 champs, maybe guarantee at least one non P4+1, and that's it. Let the polls settle the remaining spots.

I can agree with not guaranteeing them slots but let's not limit them either. If they are four of the best twelve, they need to be in the CFP.

I not wild about guaranteeing all the 4+1 spots but I understand why it is done. What I have a harder time accepting is guaranteeing those four conferences one of the four first round byes. What if the four best teams are out of the B1G and SEC? They should be rewarded with first round byes if they are the four best. jmo

Let's say K-State pulls another season this year like they did in 2022. and wins the Big 12 finishing 10-3. And Oregon and Ohio State both finish 12-1 with Oregon beating Ohio State for the B1G conference championship. If that happens this year, 10-3 K-State is guaranteed a first round bye and 12-1 Ohio State has to play a first round game. I don't see K-State as better than Ohio State in that scenario and I doubt the CFP would either. (BTW, I trust the CFP committee more than the polls but that's just me.)

I'm advocating for letting the CFP rank them 1-12 period. Let 1-4 have first round byes, 5-8 host first round games at home with 5 hosting 12, 6 hosting, 11, 7 hosting 10 and 8 hosting 9. The 4+1 is still in tact but not for seeding purposes.

I am for AQs because I want to have a conference like the B12, where teams beat each other and there is no "top" team. The winner of that conference should be rewarded. No one is going to cry for a 2 or 3 loss SEC/B1G team not getting in when they had a chance to lose 1 less game.

Think of the excitement in the B12 this year ... no TX and OU, someone is going to the CFP which hasn't happened that often in the past. November will be wild with a lot of games that mean a ton.

If it were 8 teams, I am with you. But with 7 at large spots, letting the top 5 in AQ is cool by me.

And schools like OkieSt, TxTech, KState, even Kansas who maybe didn't have the full NIL support because of a "what's the use" attitude will now be energized to push all in. It will be good for CFB, great for the players, and make every game from week 1 on matter.

In years past who cared about a game between Baylor and KState other than their fans? Now everyone watching the playoff race will be interested in it.

There is no doubt the 12 team playoff will create many more games late in the season that have an impact on the playoffs. Even ripple effects beyond their own conference implications. And many said adding teams to the playoffs would devalue the regular season. That's just BS.

I just don't think the four conference champions should be guaranteed the bye. That said, finishing 5-8 and hosting a first round game is also a good thing to play for during the season.
