Who’s the most beloved athlete in your state?

Would a leader allow his starting pitchers to eat fried chicken and drink beer during games?

And if his leadership was so important, how did the Sox win in 18 with arguably their best team this century after Ortiz had retired. Sounds to me like roster makeup has a ton to do with team success

“taking steroids is leadership!”

@Illustrious Potentate

When steroids save the sport, it is. Selfless act that kept David Ortiz’s MLB dreams alive

whatever you say Ortiz hater. In fact, you seem to have a hard on for just about all Boston sports. Can’t say as I blame you. Given your young life it must seem like they win everything. Can certainly make even a good man jealous. But don’t worry. There were plenty of lean years for Boston sports fans.

Why don’t you go be a “leader” and drive some of that heavy equipment you work with while taking an illegal substance or two. Just explain to your bosses that you are exhibiting leadership qualities because it helps you work longer… then be sure to ask for a raise.

First time I ever ran a dozer, I was high as a kite with the tracks right on the edge of a 30 foot high wall and loving every minute of it.

It wasn’t the reporters that got MLB to act.

John McCain gave them an ultimatum. He set January 05 as a hardline date for MLB testing or he’d push legislation to test all professional athletes.

They announced their new plan, in January 05. Can’t screw around too much in order to make as much money as possible, if you don’t want to lose Monopoly exemption.

You're right. I forgot about McCain. I think it was the reporting that got McCain's attention, then when MLB didn't respond, he issued his ultimatum.

And Bonds had one of the all time great World Series performances. His team lost, so nobody remembers just how great he was in that series

Remember that home run Bonds hit off Percival? A couple of years after that world series, I'm working for AT&T selling cellphones. Troy Percival comes into the store looking for new service.

So, as I'm getting him set up with his phone, I ask him about that home run. He laughs and says, "The game was pretty much over, so I decided to throw it as hard as I could just to see what would happen". I said "He hit that a long way". Percival says "I'm not sure it's landed yet".

Probably wouldn’t have been so willing to joke about it had his team not won the series

McCain sticking his nose in professional sports is a big reason why I wasn’t a fan. He was a big reason why MMA was illegal in several states because he referred to it as human cockfighting, even though he was a big boxing fan and boxing is proven to be significantly more dangerous than MMA

Yeah, I wasn't a fan either. Honestly, congress, etc. should stay the hell out of sports.

My son is training for MMA, when he first started, I tried to talk him out of it because I figured MMA was more dangerous than boxing. He explained why it wasn't and had me watch some fights with him. Turned me into an MMA fan.

Because fighters can use kicks and submission holds, you see injuries that you never see in boxing (like when Connor's ankle collapsed on him in his last fight) but they don't take the pounding that boxers do. Plus, an MMA fight is only 5 rounds max. If a fight is ended quickly with a submission, both fighters can walk away with virtually no damage.

There’s no 10 count either, when you’re not intelligently defending yourself, it’s over.

MMA used to be my favorite sport, but then the free PPVs went away when my dad’s friend died and we didn’t know anyone else who could unscramble the signal and my favorites got old and started to suck

Yep. That's one of my favorite things about it. Helps to prolong careers and keep guys from having a lot of cognitive issues later in life.

Don't know how good you are with computers, but my son and I never pay for the PPV's. He just streams them. The computer we use is hooked up to the tv, so we still watch it on the big screen.

I’m an idiot with technology and most things in general
