Why did Miami bother drafting Tua?

Of all the QBz drafted in rounds 1 or 2 the last 2 years the only 2 who are verifiably better than Tua are Burrow and Herbert

Tua is at least as good ( if not better ) than thd rest of them so far

Why bother to waste a top 5 pick on a guy you have no intention of legitimately giving a real shot to?

Plenty of other routes they couldve gone
 
its possible that the coaching staff just doesn't like what they see after a year

its also possible that the Dolphins don't know what they're doing

Tua is more accurate, but Hurts makes bigger plays. Probably about equal as passers, all things considered. Hurts runs the ball a lot better, so I would probably give the nod to Hurts, but I'm not sure if the Dolphins are even trying to make Tua successful. How do you have almost a full season's worth of starts and your long completion is 36 yards?

I would not. Id have Hurts, Tua and Jones on the samd level behind Burrow and Herbert witn everyone else on a lower tier than those 5

I think Jones is on pace to be way better than Hurts and Tua, 1st year playing wise

Theyre all 3 ostensibly still in year 1 as none of them have more than 13 starts and Hurts and Tua didnt really get a regular training camp/preseason last year

I think I read somewhere where Hurts has never been in the same offense for more than a year...

if he gets consistency in an offense - can he be better?
 
It really wasn't that long ago that Tua's first 13 games would've been considered "normal" for a first round QB. Think there's definitely too much impatience from a coaching staff that hasn't shown they can develop QBs.

Having said that his durability is a definite concern.
 
It's almost like being a QB that only has to throw to 5* WR's, with a 5* RB, and a 5* TE while being blocked by 5* OL-men against vastly inferior competition...doesn't prepare you for the NFL.
 
Wasn't Tua drafted while he was dealing with a serious injury? Might've been fine to take him in later rounds, but early in the 1st?

Sometimes Owners and GM's like to gamble to look smart. That's dangerous to do in the 1st round. Gamble on a medical issue or head case in the 4th round.

Serious and repeat injuries. Almost every game he ended up in the tent or locker room. We've never had a QB at Bama as injury prone.

You must know about owners being physically restrained from drafting the head case instead of the future Hall of Fame guard in the 1st as well

protections are in place and the process worked :suds:

The only time it was a problem was when Jerry stepped back and let that conman from Jersey take over and draft his buddies kid.

You can add in the fact he struggles with the playbook and limits what they can call.

That is a huge factor in why they are hesitant to just hand it over. I think that came as a big shock to them.
