Wizard of Oz to Get LGBTQ-Inclusive, Racially Diverse Remake

Odds are, through your life, you will meet a gay person.
I can pretty much guarantee that I've spent more time with gay folks than you have.
Why not just let them have representation in media?
I'm not saying they shouldn't have representation in media. I just think it's inappropriate in stuff for kids.
If you don't want to watch it, don't watch it
Unfortunately, when you have kids it's not always that simple.

it's the wizard of oz, always been gay.

I'm not offended, but I do think the notion that everything needs to be remade gayer to "reflect where the world is now" is ridiculous. There are what, eight main characters in Wizard of Oz? Based on the percentage of gay folks in the US, should any of those eight characters be gay?

I have no problem with gay people, I just don't think we need that lifestyle shoehorned into all of our entertainment, particularly those produced as children's programs.
Not to mention, some of the characters are a tin can, a lion and a scarecrow. Why does anyone need to care what gender of lion a lion is having sex with or what race of tin can the tin can is?

Isn't Julie Garland already a gay icon?

Imagine if it went the other way though. The uproar if a classic black character was remade with a white character.
Poor white straight man, always being replaced in fantasy musicals about rainbows, talking lions, witches, wizards, and flamboyant dancing. When will we ever get a break?

The level of offended people get over remakes going with diversity in the cast is just bizarre.
No it's just shitty remakes period. I'm all for diversity reflecting society, I'm against horrible remakes across the board.

Have you seen the wizard of oz? It's pretty gay to begin with. And yes, I think it's likely a group of flamboyant characters who find each other on a journey to see a wizard who also happen to like to break out in song and dance would include a gay or two.

I am not saying you haven't....I am just saying that using data like "1 in 5 people are gay" is not how this should be looked at.

I don't think it is inappropriate at all. If someone in their class has two daddies or something, they should understand that love is love.

who do you think the new Wizard of Oz movie is targeting?

I mean, I guess the problem is using race/sexual preference as a monetization platform.

There's a difference between remaking the movie and casting Jamie Foxx as the Tin Man and making statements that you're making a concentrated effort to include in the script that the man lion likes to have sex with other man lions.

I guess if two man lions having sex on a yellow brick road helps a homosexual person in some way in real life though...good?

as of right now, we don't know how they are diversifying the movie. Maybe Galinda is black or something...

it doesn't need to be the Tin Man or the Cowardly Lion...

didn't they do a sci fi version of Oz recently?

So 7 out of 100 movie roles should be for gays.

14 out of 100 movie roles should be for blacks

50-60 out of 100 movie roles showing people committing crimes should be played by blacks.

Just so we have diversity reflecting society.

Anything that can be used as a monetization platform will be used as such. That's how capitalism works.

Another classic case of the dumbfucks that hate something, giving it more attention, and publicity, than it ever could get on its own.

:airquotes: diversity :airquotes:
:airquotes: inclusive :airquotes:

Entitled, racist assholes who think one of the greatest entertainment achievements in mankind's history needs to be "remade" to fit them and their fucked-up, racist, perverted world.

Fuck that.

how about remaking something, or retelling a story, and including a certain group of people in order to reach out to a certain target audience?
