Would JT Daniels really be the better option for UGA?

When tSith decides to retire, the coach shopping for his replacement will be epic.

Wonder if Kirby would leave UGA to take Nicky's helm? lolz

My friends and me were talking about that last night. I doubt it. I think he'll see that as the door opening for him at UGA instead, so unless they turn on him I think he'll stay put.

I'm guessing the mobility factor over Daniels.

Much like Kelly goin with statue Coan over Buchner (Mr Mobility) at ND.

Was frustrating as hell so many times.
It’s more than just Buchner’s mobility. He’s an actual threat in the run game. Ever notice how our running backs suddenly were able to get 5-6 yards per carry instead of < 3 ypc when Coan was in? The DL and LB’s had to respect the possibility that Buchner would pull it and run and have the speed to hurt you. Nobody believed Coan would ever keep it and he’s slower then my dad if he did.

Exactly ... it's the same dayum thing I tell my brother ery time Buchner is in the game.

Just brings a whole new dynamic in the run game and he's looked like a pretty dayum decent passer when he decides to throw, also.

His throwing mechanics do need work but he should have been given more of the playbook for sure.

I have some low level inside connections, and I’m on every pay site there is that have “insiders.” What is clear is that Daniels can’t or won’t go. A lot of buzz about parents involved, mental issues - think yips.

The simple fact is that Smart isn’t dumb. JTD was QB1 until injured. When able to go, he’s the better choice. No coach at this level is starting the QB2 if QB1 can go.

SBIV is an incredible story. Good enough to go 12-0 in the SEC, but appears he isn’t capable of scoring 45 against Bama type team. Could Daniel’s have done better? Don’t know, but unless our D plays way better we won’t win with either QB.

Kirby isn’t going anywhere. His seat isn’t in any warm with normal fans, and more importantly with big boosters. Think about it … he just went 12-1 and made the CFP. He’s recruiting top 3 every year. He’s won the East 4 out of the last 5, 2nd CFP appearance, would have been in 5 of 6 12 team CFPs. You’d have to be an idiot to want him fired. After this last coaching carousel anyone wanting to get on that is an idiot.

That makes sense.

Or he loathes one that MIGHT put his beloved defense in a compromising situation!
I find you to be a good poster. Do you really think that a 7 million dollar HC, who has won NCs, trained by the GOAT, coaching his alma mater, would jeopardize his best chance so far to reach the pinnacle of his profession because he wants to protect his defense? C'mon.

Now, I do believe that he believes you have play complimentary football with O and D. We've seen that not work in the B12. Satan certainly believes in that ... he runs a fairly balanced O to compliment his D when he can. Even with 4 NFL playing/level QBs, be ran the clock in the second half. He always tried to have a run game so his D wasn't always on the field. But that isn't what you were alluding to.

Oh, I believe they want to be balanced, play complimentary football, yada, yada, yada. But, they'll run home to their roots. We all do. It is in our DNA. The key is intentionally fighting that urge and action. Hell, it ain't just Kirby. Leach does it on the other end. He's going to revert to pass, pass, pass...because it is just him.

And Saban has adapted drastically over these past few years. Go back and look at his 2011 team compared to the 2021 team. I'm convinced the ONLY reason he brough Kiffen and Sark in was to adapt the offense. He's also gone to much more athletic linebackers that can cover in space as opposed to run pluggers. And truth be told, he would probably rather still be doing it like he did with Greg McElroy instead of Bryce Young. But, he keeps that urge in the background and does what he needs to in order to win.

Didn't work for him very well Saturday.
Y’all exposed my biggest concern for the defense. That secondary hadn’t been tested all year because the defensive front was bullying the o-line against every other team and the QB didn’t have a chance to do anything more than dump offs. I wondered what would happen if a team gave their QB some time what would happen. We found out. South Carolina hit some deep passes against us but it didn’t matter, they didn’t have the talent to keep up. If there is a rematch, there better be some major adjustments. It gets lost in the excitement, but the offense had their chances to make it a competitive game but turnovers and failed red zone trips stopped it. I think the offense can clean some stuff up and be fine, I’m far more concerned about our secondary being able to contain those explosive WR when the front 7 can’t get to Young.

It would be pretty hard to replace Kirby with a coach that can recruit on his level, but with the talent already on the roster, shitcan Kirby and get a HC that isn't intimidated by Saban and can gameplan and be good with the x's and o's, there would be a window of a couple years to get a natty.

I don't know. It would seem that if a coach is good enough to win a title, he either has to be a good recruiter...or be smart enough to hire assistants who are good recruiters.

Imo, UGA's problem isn't their coach, it's the same problem that every other SEC school has...they are in the same conference as the GOAT.

Who can you hire that is better than Smart?

Or even more important...Who can you hire that's better than Saban?

You’re not gonna hire anyone better than Saban because that person doesn’t exist, but Bama and Saban are so far in Kirby’s head the games are over before they start. I still think we’re a better team this year, but there’s a huge mental road block when it comes to Bama. I can only remember one season where we didn’t win at least 8 games, we’ve been at least solid for as long as I can remember, but always being good without ever being the best is just as frustrating as being completely irrelevant

Agree. There's gonna be a huge shake up in the SEC within a couple years after the GOAT retires. maybe immediately.
No more Saban scrotum to swing from.
There will be some jizz rising to the top, but they won't be able to replicate what he did with the same consistency.

It will be a lot closer game if we get a rematch...Metchie being out hurts, but Young is accurate enough that if the young guys just catch the fucking ball...which many failed to do at Auburn, we'll be fine there.

The real difference will be the O-line. They literally can't play any better than they did, because they were damn near perfect on pass protection. With the defensive TD, I think 41 was literally max points against Georgia...we can't score any more than that.

Couple that with some mistakes and missed opportunities by the Georgia offense and it wouldn't take much to tip this game in the other direction.

I think it is always hard to win a rematch, hopefully we get a chance to find out.

It took Osborne 22 years to win his first NC.
Yeah, there were plenty that were calling for his head around these parts in the 70's, 80's, and early 90's. After winning 3 in 4 years they've eaten their crow.

Kirby will be fine, he keeps gettin this kind of talent and eventually he will hit it correctly by law of averages if nothing else at QB and win the whole thing. UGA can have another Bo or Bowden ect. With a ton of good teams/years and maybe one or two national championships. He’s ok.

I hadn’t even read this before posting but another example of being patient and it paying off.
Kirby is fine, they may well win it all this year still.
