If you had suitable space to grow and raise your own food would you do it? This means you are not buying any of your essential food from a store or meal service.

Assuming you're talking about a post apocalyptic event, I could, but I wouldn't want to. Even back in the early 1800's, people needed a store. I can't produce salt. Don't happen to have a salt mine laying around and the body needs salt. We need fruit and that doesn't grow year round in most places. The basics though are easy. Corn, tomatos, potato's and items like pumpkins and squash is what you would eat all winter because they last. You need the mother to make vinegar and vinegar would be absolutely required for canning. Grain alcohol is fairly easy to make and we would want that to sterilize me and things like knives and cutting boards.

I could do well enough but there isn't anything going to be fun about it.

My grandparents did it. Had a farm, grew their own fruits and vegetables. Raised cattle, chickens, pork, etc. It was a lot of work.

Don't have enough acreage to raise enough food for a year. Green beans, zucchini, tomatoes, bell peppers, serrano peppers and rosemary are about it. Enough for several meals. Fucking chickenshit HOA won't let me raise chickens or goats.

Yes. I'd be fine raising many types of fruits and vegetables through late spring to early fall.
I've got Rubbermaid bins in the basement for dried rice and beans to go with gamebird, rabbit, squirrel, deer, fish, eggs, etc. year round.
Another source of protein would come from my black walnut trees. I have a grove full of them.

If eggs went to $12, I’d probably invest in some chickens. I grow tomatoes and potatoes badly enough now, so I could probably supplement at least 30-40% of annual supply for us, if I tore up the lawns.

Yes i grew up on a farm, horses, cows, chickens, and pigs. Planted, purple hull, greenbeans, corn, bell peppers, watermelons, cantaloupe, and a few other things I can't think of.. we slaughtered our cows, pigs and chickens. We hunt deer and turkey.. so yeah no biggie.

What's the point then. I put in a garden every year, but who the hell today is going to go through that struggle full time. We have supermarkets.

Not sure what percentage of my food I grow. But it’s a decent chunk.

Canning without electricity would be a new experience. Same with the milling process. Think I could really get into cheese making tbh.

Biggest drawback to full on Amish style would be having to deal with horses all the time.

Fuck no. Farming takes up too much valuable time that can be used for internet shitposting
