Ynoa >> Ohtani

Back in the day, the only guy that asked me to lay off our boy Omar, was Chewy.

Bryce Harper is better than returning favors, it seems.

Which is a loss, cuz most of you can’t rap battle.

But back to the OP, Ynoa has been by far the biggest pleasant surprise on this team. The offense has been a nice added bonus, but he’s been our ace and the competition hasn’t been close.

I don’t think it’s a fluke either, the stuff is good. If all can be healthy, I really like the prospect of a Ynoa-Soroka-Fried-Anderson rotation going forward

Would like to see him get more comfortable with his change up. Right now he's killing it with two pitches, but the league is going to catch up to him eventually. Especially since he has very different releases between his fastball and slider. The league is going to catch on more and make adjustments. Not too many elite pitchers out there just working on two pitches.

2021 Braves Payroll: $149.3 million
- top earning players: Freddie Freeman: $22.4M, Marcell Ozuna: $16.0M, Charlie Morton: $15.0M, Will Smith: $13.0M, Drew Smyly: $11.0M

2021 Angels Payroll: $213.1 million
- top earning players: Mike Trout: $37.0M, Albert Pujols: $30M, Anthony Rendon: $28.1M, Raisel Iglesias: $9.1M, Dylan Bundy: $8.3M

The Braves are a quality organization and know how to scout and develop players. The Angels can do nothing except spend into oblivion and then question why they never win.
The Angels drafted and developed the best baseball player since Mickey Mantle.

Okay... we weren't really talking about Trout. But okay- if the Angels ever want to use him to win a World Series title, then it would be wiser not to overpay for a broken, former-great like Pujols or a gimmick like Ohtani. As good as Trout was and still is, it would be a shame if he were to be wasted.

Overpay?
Ohtani is probably the best bargain in baseball at this time.

Compared to Huascar Ynoa? Or about 20 other guys?

Sure, I am just saying you can’t say they don’t draft when they literally drafted the best player in the game. You can say the length of the contract for Pujols was idiotic but you cannot blame them for Ohtani, he was coveted by every single team in the sport and same with Rendon. Am not at all trying to imply they are some model organization but it isn’t like they have a huge payroll because they have paid scrubs.

Good point, except isn't Trout the exception that proves the rule? The entire team is pretty much made up of free agents:

C: Kurt Suzuki - Nats / Braves / A's
1B: Jared Walsh - *drafted or developed by Angels
2B: David Fletcher - *drafted or developed by Angels
SS: Jose Iglesias - RSox / Tigers / Reds / Orioles
3B: Anthony Rendon - Nats
OF: Justin Upton - Braves / Tigers / Dbacks / Padres
OF: Mike Trout - *drafted or developed by Angels
OF: Dexter Fowler - Rockies / Astros / Cubs / Cards
SP: Dylan Bundy - Orioles
SP: Jose Quintana - WSox / Cubs
SP: Shohei Ohtani - *drafted or developed by Angels
SP: Andrew Heaney - Marlins
SP: Alex Cobb - Rays / Orioles
RP: Raisel Iglesias - Reds
RP: Junior Guerra - WSox / Brewers / Dbacks
RP: Steve Cishek - Marlins / Rays / Cubs / ? / ?
RP: Mike Mayers - Cards
RP: Alexander Claudio - Rangers / Brewers

That's a shocking number of free agents to fill positions and shows the degree of laziness to which the front office employs. No one's saying that they need to develop homegrown talent as efficiently as the Pirates, Indians, Braves, Marlins, Cardinals, Twins or even the Dodgers. But spending in a few big places and gluing a depth chart together with whatever can be found, offseason after offseason, is my point. I'm more inclined to think they lucked into Trout. Even Ohtani is an ill fit, and would be better served on a NL team.

Braves got Acuna for 8yrs $100M that’s by far the best bargain.

Got Albies for 7yrs $35M....pretty good too

I am aware of that. Ohtani is making 3 mil this year. He is far from an overpaid gimmick, as Mofo claims.

If Ohtani could get his BB/9 down to around 4-5 instead of 7, I think he could be a very good pitcher.

He's got a 118 ERA+ as a pitcher and a 125 OPS+ as a hitter in the majors. And the fact that's all tied into one roster spot rather than two makes it even more valuable IMO. He's been able to deliver in both aspects, the only real problem has been the injuries that have kept him off the mound.

How much that white people friendly, new stadium cost?
shocked judy garland GIF

Also, next year, the DH will be in both leagues, so Ynoa’s good bat will be negated, though he’d probably be a better defensive left fielder than Ozuna...

But Ynoa is too good of a pitcher to risk injury in the field. I also think Ohtani is too good of a hitter to risk injury on the mound.
