A buddy of mine is the same way. He hates horror movies, says that he hates being/feeling scared or things designed to scare.

Idk, I am different lol. I used to hate horror movies because of how cheesy or poorly done they were, but now I have come to love them because I realize (imo) it is the hardest genre to do well.

I don't know what @RoyMunson's motives are for disliking horror movies, but I share his opinion.

1) Movies are a form of entertainment and I'm simply not entertained by demons or homicidal maniacs.
2) Whatever rush people get from "being scared" is a rush that I cannot relate to and do not receive.
3) I'm a very logical person who often sees right through story/circumstantial logic flaws and have a difficult time suspending belief. Comedies and sci-fi action movies are pretty much the only movies I've ever loved because there's an immediate and definitive suspension of disbelief within those genres.
4) From the "fight or flight" perspective, "flight" is simply not an option for me in pretty much any circumstance. I cannot relate to it.

1) what type of things/feelings qualify "entertainment" to you. I have seen many more demon and homicidal horror movies that are bad than I have that are good. In relation to demons or possessions, I think a lot of someones perspective will be built on how they view the after life and/or whether they are religious or believe in God or not.
2) I couldn't tell you the last movie I ever felt "scared" by, probably be from when I was a kid, but it isn't really about that for me.
3) I am as well, hence why I cannot watch pretty much ANY time travel movie, I cannot help but pick it apart. Now that does not mean that I have not seen some good time travel movies or time travel movies that are tolerable even with glaring problems. This is actually why I think The Exorcist is so great, because of how down to earth it is. The more realistic approach to any type of movie, the better in my opinion.
4) I agree, but I do think it is circumstantial. If you were to be in a demonic possession situation, I think you may find it difficult to fight, which is kind of the point. I can understand people in certain situations in movies running away, but where they can fight back, they should. Again, that is just more realistic to me.

I prefer to think of horror movies as gory comedies.

*also, I always thought Event Horizon was way underrated.
Not a fan of Event Horizon from the movie perspective, but it's use of gore is pretty good.

Sam Neill is an underrated horror actor too.

1) I'm entertained by humor (i.e. comedy movies, stand-up), real-time action (i.e. sports, video games) and competition (sports, multi-player table-top/party games).

From my experience, I've found no substantial correlation between religious affiliation/belief and affection for horror movies. Sample my own family: I come from a religious family and am religious myself. My father kinda likes some horror, my mother does not. My parents had five boys. I'm #1 and don't care for horror at all. #2 & #5 love horror. #3 & #4 both like some/occasional horror but prefer other genres. I have two kids. #1 has no interest in horror. #2 loves it. #2 is more religious than #1. :noidea:

3/4) Levitating above a bed and a head rotating 360 on the spine is pure horror fantasy. And to me, it's dumb. Now in the case of Ghostbusters, stuff like that is designed to be humorous so I can enjoy it. Try to be serious with that stuff and you lose me.

And real-life demonic possession is not some "evil spirit" as portrayed in movies that can be exorcised by sinful man through man-made rituals. Real demonic possession is actually Satan's corruption on humans through vices and the only true means of exorcism is through the Holy Spirit. I have vices. I do fight them.

Ya, but what about all the titties in those 70's and 80's slasher flicks? Eh?

How old are you though? There was a time when a horror movie guaranteed pointless titties, in a time when pointless titties in a movie had value and meant something to a developing young man...

Haha I should read the whole thread next time.

You and me drink cup, fucking peas and carrots :laugh3:

So you don't like horror because they aren't funny enough, have 'real-time action' and competition? Have you seen Cabin in the Woods? Lol

Fair enough, I wasn't speaking to general horror, but specifics. Such as religious people or people that believe might be more inclined to lean on possessions and such.

I can agree with the head rotation, though it was great in The Exorcist, but levitation is part of the demonic possession or ghost/paranormal lore. Like one side meeting another side where things work differently. Like in the rom/com Ghost with Swazey. lol

But hey, to each their own. Personally, I really enjoy possession/demonic horrors as well as alien horror. If you like alien movies, I recommend to check out The Fourth Kind, but do yourself a favor and go in blind, much more entertaining that way.

Or don't, whatevs lol.

lol. I remember I went to see Freddy vs Jason on opening day and in the opening scene where you get to see tits, the whole audience erupted lol.

Just something special about tits lol.

Somewhere there probably still exists an old notebook with a victim count and a pointless titty count for the Friday the 13th franchise up until Jason Goes to Hell, my parents didn't throw out anything of mine. That was a great VHS marathon.

I think Part IV is the best for that?

In no particular order:

Halloween
A Nightmare On Elm Street
The Thing
Sinister
The Shining
Fright Night
The Conjuring
It (remake)
A Quiet Place
"The Thing" lol. That movie creeped me the hell out first time I saw it

none of them. I hate horror movies. zero enjoyment from them
Yeah, honestly they had their time and place for me, got a thrill out of them during childhood/adolescence. The older I get, the more blah they seem to me
