Saban takes a MASSIVE shot at Jimbo.

Try again.

That's my favorite. Apparently, USC hasn't lost a single player to the portal and are the only ones using it. lol

Riley said when he was hired that they were going to have to use the portal a lot this year because, between players leaving and holes left by Helton and his staff, it was the only way to address everything.

He doesn't expect to be using the portal to this extent going forward.

UCLA and 'SC fans are like best bros....LOL.

What about the transfer portal?
See your post #401.

And no we are not scorned women. We're fine with Venables and a new start before we head to the SEC. Muleshoe was failing at OU and we'll see if he can get back up on track at USC. I hope we both end up in the same bowl after this season. Now THAT would be fun. :)

Sooners fans are just scorned women lashing out at this point.

Which is odd considering they seem to think they have a much better coach now.

The way some of them talk about him, especially compared to Venables, you'd think they would be thanking USC for ridding their program of him.
a lot of it is pride. USC scooped up their HC and treated them like they were Kansas State. As a result, their pussies are a tad sore right now.

See your post #401.

And? You realize that the transfer portal is available to all programs to use to try to fill needs on their rosters, right?

You also realize that a big part of a head coaches job is to actually win football games and that he is expected to use all available resources to achieve that, right?

He's using the portal exactly how it's supposed to be used. If Venables isn't, that's your teams problem.

And no we are not scorned women

Really? Because I have dealt with a few scorned women in my lifetime and they sounded a lot like Sooners fans. Including the continuing to bitch several months later.

I hope we both end up in the same bowl after this season. Now THAT would be fun. :)

If there is any way to make it happen that makes sense, it wouldn't surprise me to see some bowl try to do it.

As far as NIL, I agree with what, I believe, @Wild Turkey said the other day. It will actually likely be the companies doing the NIL deals themselves who will slow it down. After they've had some kids who signed big deals spend a season or 2 on the bench and then transfer....they won't be offering so much, so quickly.
It will slow down. It’s new the market is in a frenzy and eventually ROI will matter

@Codaxx, you can't be serious that this is just business as usual. What's going on now is a quantum leap from when a school would provide something to a player. That's like saying a wife kissing an old boyfriend at a class reunion is the same as her swimming out to meet troop ships.
The money is larger, because you don’t have to do it illegally. Harder to ask people to shell out money that they need to hide. It’s the same. Street walker gets paid $20 for a blow job. A Call girl gets $200. In the end they are both whores, one just gets paid better

Spurrier chiming in

"I don't know why he is mad at Saban," former Florida and South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier told DawgNation.com. "Did Saban say something that wasn't true?"

Spurrier, however, said he didn't find any fault with Saban's original comments.

"I don't think Saban told any lies in there, so I don't know what [Fisher] was mad about," Spurrier told DawgNation. "Since [Fisher] beat him last year, I guess he can talk now. He hasn't beat much of anybody, but he beat Saban last year. But they haven't won the division or anything since he's been there."

I'd also add that when it's done illegally, the amounts have to be small enough to be explainable.

Exactly. People act like this is something new. Paying for players is as old as college football ball. Walter Camp has been called the father of American Football. He was one of the first cheaters in college football

“A gentleman never competes for money, directly or indirectly,” he intoned in his book, all the while controlling a reputed $100,000 (about $2.5 million in today’s dollars) slush fund for athletic “tutoring.”

OK, so there's no difference between a player getting a car and him getting a half million. I'm glad to know that because I thought we might have a problem with players being recruited by the use of large financial inducements. I have to laugh when I see comments that USC "doesn't even have a collective" as if that means they aren't buying players or Texas A&M claiming they didn't spend $30 Million so that means they still didn't buy a recruiting class. OU has used the portal same as everyone else but Venables has stayed away from outright poaching people. We'll see if that lasts. And so far Oklahoma has not chosen to use checkbook recruiting. The money's there to do anything we have to do but until then we can just watch and see who does the best: schools that buy players or schools that make sure the players get some $$$ but aren't out and out buying them. OU's not going to be left behind if it does evolve into semi-pro football so we'll be fine either way. It's going to be interesting.

No- there is no difference between a car or 500k. Again it’s the price that is different, not the act.

^^ THIS ^^

It's not the NFL where salaries are made by franchises.
Businesses, Boosters, private entities, etc.. aren't gonna pay some kid millions to sit the bench on 3rd or 4th string.
There will be far more failures than successes.
Within a couple years it'll all be performance based like it should be. Like it was meant to be.

The bigger issue will be keeping a kid from transferring for bigger bucks once he becomes a star.
A la Jordan Addison to USC.

Even that will come down. Is Addison worth 2 million for USC? I highly doubt it. They aren’t that close to NC. He is a one year rental.

Just saying it'll become more risk based.

Addison is low risk on that money (now) where a 17/18 year old kid out of high school is high risk.
Some kids develop further and some kids literally reach their peak in high school, then are a dud in college.

With these offers, Addison was not getting much NIL out of high school.

If he goes pro.
Class of 2020 so he's only a junior this season and also has a covid year if he chooses. USC could have him for 3 years.

OU has used the portal same as everyone else but Venables has stayed away from outright poaching people.

Who's been poaching people?

Coaches can't contact players until they enter the portal. So unless you have proof that a coach has been contacting players before they enter the portal, the NCAA would like to see it.

Otherwise, y'all need to stfu with your bullshit accusations, because no one is using it any differently than OU.

That is exactly what it means. Sounds like you need to educate yourself a little more about how it works because all you're doing is throwing out baseless accusations that you can't back up and showing how little you know.

You better hope Venables and your AD have a better grasp than you do, or your Sooners are gonna get ass raped in the SEC.

lol.. he's going pro

Yep. The only way I could see him staying beyond this season is if he were to suffer a season ending injury and thought it would help his draft status.

Even then, I doubt he'd stay. He already won the Biletnikoff, so the NFL already knows what he can do...they're just waiting for him to be eligible to play.

It's like Drake London who broke his ankle last year in game 8. As much fun as it would have been to see him in Lincoln Riley's offense, there was no reason for him to come back. The NFL already had all the info they needed.
