Pond Excavation & Build

There is a local guide who had a hunting show on pbs...his grandfather and his father had hunting shows as well....all three with the same name. The guy also guided hunts. he was busted by the game people with a submergible feeding station on his duck pond. He would load it with feed and then sink it just below the surface where it wasn't seen. And then would bring paid hunters on to shoot a bunch of ducks and also did some of his shows that way.

Thats lame......

My father in law who lives on Kentucky Lake, used to bring up deer jerky, sausage and smoked meat every year for xmas.....
It waa all good until he showed me pics, cause he waa telling me how many him his neighbors were killing......

Well,I visited my f-i-l in Kentucky a couple of years ago and showed me a place a bunch of them called deer camp.....

They had some tree stand built around the woods, but looked like there was never a trail that lead up to them, except for one.....
I remembered two of the pics he showed of 4 deer at once feeding in the middle of the night, well that stand had a deer feeder full of corn that they would feed thru out the year then wait in the stand and blaat the shit out of them........

Fucking lame, its bad enough to hunt, but too get lazy about it and trap them is bullshit......

I never ate or took any more meat from him.....maybe its legal there,,I doubt it,but maybe.....

Canadian geese? You are mistaken. The proper term for this animal is Asshole Geese

I don’t know about Kentucky, but it’s legal to hunt over a feeder in Georgia. You can even use dogs to run deer towards you in the southern zone.

Why do you say hunting is bad enough?

A lot of people get Canadian geese mixed up with sandhill cranes down here. They fly in a similar v pattern

Bro you're in clay hell I'm surprised your first hole didn't get any. My whole property is 2-4 inches of topsoil then straight clay. Just carved a hole for basketball unit a couple weeks ago 😂

That's because they stripped the good top soil off and sold it before putting in your subdivision. It's how they do all of them in these parts.

I’ve always wanted some land with a small lake. I’ve got a small stream in the woods behind my house. Doesn’t get more than shin deep. Plenty of crawfish and spring lizards for bait though

Before I bought this 25 acres I looked at a few places that were already on water. Typically either a reservoir dam or an old sand/borrow pit. The problem was the houses were stacked on top of one another. More lots = More $$ for the developer. There were some that had just 6 feet of space between houses. You're also paying some sort of SID, HOA, or some other maintenance dues to live there. Another issue is the fishing's not that good because it gets a lot of pressure and very little wildlife management if any.

Fuck that. I like my privacy and peace, so I figured for the same $$ (even less) I'll buy my own land, put in my own water, and call it mine. My nearest neighbor is a half mile away.
Some of the best fishing I've ever done is on anywhere from 1 - 3 acre farm ponds.

These parts are all old pastures reeks of shit any time they start digging new areas

If you're into helping some ducks out, you might consider some of these to put in the shallows before you fill it. Would be a lot easier.\

I grew up in Ralston when the Omaha Stockyards were still in operation. When the wind was out of the east it got pretty rank.

When my grandpa was over from the farm, he'd say "Smells like money."

Lol that would suck

Most of my fishing is done either at one of two farm ponds owned by different great uncles(one passed last year, me and my buddies are the only people his son will let fish it since we got the area cleaned up when my great uncle got too sick to keep trespassers away) or on the river.

I thought I was gonna luck into finding a place that backed up to a reservoir, but it fell through. I like where I live, but I don’t have enough land to build a pond of any size, if I were ever to find a place that either had a small lake on the property or riverfront property in my price range, I’d sell out in a heartbeat

That’s what all the old timers around here say whenever a farmer spreads chickenshit on their fields

Nebraska smells like cow shit, Georgia smells like chicken shit. And they say there is no justice in this world.

I live in the poultry capital of the US. Out of the 5 work days in a week, I probably get behind a chicken truck on the way to work 3 days on average.

I’m nose blind to rendering plants too. There’s not one near me anymore, they moved to a different location, but there was one maybe half a mile away as the crow flies growing up. The county water department converted it into a water treatment facility since then

Buy the dirt and put the water in yourself.
When I'm done with this pond I'll have roughly $40k into it, but the value of this property will increase at least $200k instantly.

I've no desire to move, but that's a good return on my investment when I croak and leave it to the kiddos to fight over or sell.
It was a no brainer and in the plan when I was writing the check and signing the title paperwork.
Of course I didn't say a word about my 'plan' for the property to the seller. LOL
