I think USC just wanted a 'travel buddy' and Oregon wasn't it.
Oregon is about as far from USC as Tennessee is to Wisconsin.

i mean y'all voted no to expansion.. they haven't been able to keep 2 SEC teams for the most part, out of the CFP.. with expansion coming up.. how are they going to keep the BiG from getting the other 2 spots?everyone said G5 would never get in. then it did. why should we expect the Pac if it stays, BigXII or ACC will suddenly never have a chance?
Might be, but right now no one has any idea what the PAC 10 will look like. This hasn't settled down yet and you have every team in your conference looking around. Some of the talking heads still see Pac 10 if it stays with Oregon Washington Stanford Utah, AZ(basketball) as still more valuable than the new structured Big XII

Sure, I can see someone spitballing a number based on what's left, but that's it. No one is getting into serious negotiations.Network(s) will still give them a number in assurance that the remaining 10 plus a combo of other potential add ons stay and sign a GOR.. Sure it can be broken down the line but it gives them a little hope that at least for a few seasons they live up to it.
When they have these type of discussions I think it's similar to having contractors give you quotes. It's not dumb if they are negotiating in good faith
jesus man..Sure, I can see someone spitballing a number based on what's left, but that's it. No one is getting into serious negotiations.
If the playoff expands to 12 then I would expect the PAC, B12 and ACC to be in (assuming they survive). However, if the SEC and B1G form their own playoff system where they determine conference champs and they play them in a championship game then there is no chance.everyone said G5 would never get in. then it did. why should we expect the Pac if it stays, BigXII or ACC will suddenly never have a chance?
Who other than ND makes the B1G's very big pie bigger, per team? ND for sure. After that there is no one left. You guys might do some West coast stuff for logistics and a long term investment, but I don't see the value beyond ND.Why assume that? If anything, I'd assume the B1G is just getting started and there's likely to be 4 more members on the way. The B1G wants ND to join, and if they can convince the Irish, then expect 3 more from somewhere to join up as well. I've always looked east towards Virginia and UNC, but with the LA additions, maybe they look west towards Stanford, Washington, and Oregon instead.
The remnants of the PAC and B12 will probably align to form some new conference which will become the new standard for "non-BCS" or "midmajor" for football. It'll be highly competitive in hoops and baseball tho.
Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Arizona State, Utah and Colorado are the 6 schools in discussions
Because I don't think the ACC or ND get out of the GOR right now. So I think the B1G is done until they can raid ND and ACC schools. Why assume that? Looks like Oregon and Washington are not getting their B1G invite. This is probably the best move for all 6 schools.
Big12 really messed up by adding Houston though, I don't see how they drive any value.
This seems the most likely scenario. The B12 surprised me with their moves. The PAC might do the same thing. If the playoff expands to 12 then I would expect the PAC, B12 and ACC to be in (assuming they survive). However, if the SEC and B1G form their own playoff system where they determine conference champs and they play them in a championship game then there is no chance.
If the B1G and SEC make more expansion moves that is the most probable outcome and basically a super division in formed in CFB. I don't like it but the money is going to be too great so it will happen.
If I were you I would be more worried about Arizona, ASU, Utah and Colorado as they could bury the PAC this week if they elect to defect to the B12. At that point you are either going to get a B1G invite (that is dependent on ND who is in a 14 year GOR agreement) or become a member of the B12.
yeah they really don't add value.. I live outside Houston.. they aren't supporting UH football like that, it's a pro market, HOWEVER on paper it's a huge TV Market still..Looks like Oregon and Washington are not getting their B1G invite. This is probably the best move for all 6 schools.

I sure will miss the Pacific Coast Conference.
About as much as I'll miss the Big 12
What ... you can't negotiate with a conference when no one knows who is in the conference. Just within the last 5 minutes news has broken that the B12 is going after 4-6 PAC teams. Why the fuck would any network seriously talk to a conference about a TV contract when it lost its two best teams and best market a week ago, and now have at least 4-8 of the remaining teams in talks with other conferences? I don't get why you think my position is so crazy ... the PAC's announcement today was about as stupid a PR stunt as we've seen.jesus man..
wait you mean our greatest rivals weren't Tech, TCU, Baylor, Kansas, Iowa St, West VA ?!?!?!?!!?In many ways, the Big12 over the last 10 years wasn't the same for OU and Texas anyways.
OU lost its greatest rival outside of Texas - Nebraska
Texas lost its greatest rival outside of OU - Texas A&M
The move to SEC made sense.
again man, if the PAC presidents and ADs just agreed to begin negotiations, they want to know how much they can fetch.. You know WHO STILL hasn't began discussions? The BiG12..What ... you can't negotiate with a conference when no one knows who is in the conference. Just within the last 5 minutes news has broken that the B12 is going after 4-6 PAC teams. If this is true, then the B1G has to decide if they want Cal and Stanford. After that, they are done. Then the action will be all in the B12 and PAC. ACC stands pat. After the B12 and PAC are done, the G5 gets active with what is left.Rumors are ND isn't joining the Big Ten right now. This move will give the Big 12 a boost. Some very good brands and the flexibility to play games in a lot of different time slots. And competitively, it's a very solid league.
