JUST GIVE US A CALL

The Ducks are like the golden goose for college football. It’s got Nike and the branding, kids in Florida, Georgia and Texas are wearing Duck gear because it’s the cool brand.

.

Kids certainly are wearing Nike, but wearing Oregon? Really now - that’s a bit stretch!

When Phil Knight dies and new management takes over the company you can expect a lot of that to start changing. It won't stay the same.
How’s are things at Okie lite since Boone passed on? Probably not the same either.

Didn’t stop us from taking Nebraska.
Here’s the thing, last year was a perfect year for Nebraska in the B1G as far as the rest of the schools are concerned because Nebraska the name brand played great games against the competition but lost. What more could one ask for??

I think they are waiting on Notre Dame to decide who else to pick up out of the PAC. Personally, I hope it is Oregon left hanging, because the meltdown from OD would be glorious.
Meh, one time only verses weekly?

Dude

They just got passed up for UCLA.

As @Thiefery pointed out, they missed the 2024 (2 yr) deadline, so at best they get a call for 2025.

WVU and Washington will both be available by then.

WVU gets the nod not only in winningest programs at #15, but also regionally.
Washington gets the nod on winningest programs at #18

Oregon is #35
There are 3 things Washington has going for it in this new era beyond whatever history, which I doubt plays much into it. Academics (not universally a high factor, but matters to many programs on making invites), TV market size (12th in the US) and recruiting grounds already being worked by current SEC and B1G schools. Not that this state puts a ton of top flight talent out, but enough to warrant a road trip to play a game and visit some of the top programs.

The TV rights are probably the top factor. All of this is happening because of TV rights deals. It's that money everyone is after. B1G reaching into So Cal adds a massive TV market. Huskies may be in one of those markets that also has pro teams that tend to not quite draw as much as college only towns, but it covers a massive area.

It's going to take a while for it all to shake out. Are the B1G and SEC really going to be the final resting spots for the top tier? Or, will they ever create the football specific alliances they really need? There isn't an easy way to remove the traditional teams riding the coattails in those conferences to make room for a truly elite level league and dragging the other college sports along to mega conferences and added travel time/expense is just stupid.

If we are going to make this the jr league for the NFL then go both feet in and stop fucking around.

What is the blasphemy about West Virginia into the B1G over Oregon? Stop the madness.

Give us a call. Let’s get this going

One puzzling thing about Oregon, why haven't they expanded their stadium? Their fanbase seems dedicated enough to justify it. They have such a small stadium for being a stronger brand.

Meh... large stadiums are not as important as they were in the past.

65 to 75 inch 4K TVs at home combined with DoorDash and other residential food delivery options are what now matters.

As for improved stadiums...
Renovation to add more spacious restrooms, luxury boxes, better food choices, more TV monitors, and wifi is what stadiums need... additional seating is of lesser importance.

.

Don't be mad if the Ducks are on the outside looking in. The Oregon market is not very attractive. they already have market like that in Nebraska. Plus they may not want all those "woke folks" in conference.

Part of the deal may have been USC didn't want any competition on the west coast. Maybe Stanford gets in to get ND to go along with it. Maybe the conference tells USC lol this is a brand we want a month from now. Maybe West Virginia makes more sense to them although with academics I think it's doubtful.

I wouldn't be too worried about it. Worst case for both of us is we end up in a 3rd conference that makes the cut. The money won't be what the top 2 make but let's be honest, it's no worse off than we are right now. Your Oregon State friends should be worried and if this went down 20 years ago I'd be super worried but the endgame in this is going to be closer to 60-70 programs than 32. You have a bunch of State schools that draw 500-750K playing random opponents. On their own they don't move the needle that much when it comes to SEC money. But combined-take 20 in that situation and you are talking about 10 million viewers a week minimum that would probably say fuck it I'm watching my team and have no interest in a NFL development league if my school isn't involved.

If it's a smaller number-say 48 you are probably fine and I should be fine but can see how demographics put us on the bubble there but that would mean schools like NC State (100K students on campus) and the Arizona schools (Arizona population is over 7 million and growing) are out. Rutgers and Vanderbilt aren't getting a free pass just to ignore markets like that.

Unless you are a super fringe school this will work out. And heck maybe it will work out for them as well. Take a South Florida or SMU. Probably not going to make the cut but fertile recruiting grounds and all the sudden you become the big dog in your league. It's not big boy college football anymore but you might still have a shot at being a dominant power in your division. I'm a South Dakota State alum and I enjoyed the shit out of the spring season last year (ending wasn't the best though). It didn't matter that that Bama wasn't playing-it was fun watching an alma mater make a run. So even for fans of schools that don't make the cut I'm sure it will work out.

WV is not getting into to the B1G. You can go to the bank on that !!

Maybe they think the home field advantage they have is worth a smaller stadium.

From a basketball perspective Oklahoma State is a great example. When I was a Freshman we had a 6K arena and it was small and loud. Student tickets were a lottery before I started but they went to half season packages just to let everyone in. But you were on the floor and you were 18 and rowdy and it was just an exciting atmosphere. My sophomore year they renovated the arena and I didn't get tickets (fuck me for doing that in an elite 8 year) but my junior year we had 13K seats and student tickets were easy to get but unless you camped out and got to be behind the buckets you were in the 300 section. Bigger arena and you screamed and jumped but you were really away from the action. I'm guessing Oregon doesn't want to make a mistake like that.

And like what @Innermind said. Stadium upgrades now are about improving the experience. When we got BPS it turned an admittedly shitty stadium into something nice. For a brief while Oklahoma State had the most modern college stadium in the nation. It's still nice but that was 15 years ago so it needs a face-lift. The online rumor was a 3rd deck to get us to 75K seats or so. The reality is we are going to go from 55K to 52-53K or so and upgrade the boxes. It's more about improving the fan experience and making major donors happy than getting more seats in the stadium. And that's been a trend. Every upgrade since 2008 has reduced seating capacity but made the available seats a little better. It seems we are less concerned about selling more $20 nosebleed tickets and more concerned about making sure we can maximize value for premium seats. Is it good for the fan? I'd argue no for an in game experience but maximizing revenue for the health of the program makes the experience more enjoyable when I'm sitting at home watching it on my 55" tv.

On a side note tv sizes have gotten insane. My tv died on the move to where I live now and I bought a 42" which seemed a little extra at the time. That one died and I upgraded and now I'm like for under a grand I can have a fucking monster tv.

And they sure as fuck ain't getting into the SEC. They had a vote back when they were looking for a team to round out the pick-up from TAM. Don't remember if it was a informal quick one or a formal one, but the results published was 0-12 to WVU. The SEC didn't want them then and why in the fuck would they want them now? They bring nothing to the SEC table. Fuck them, fuck VT and double fuck Miami.

Ahh, I feel much better now! :beer2:

Our win over your was last year. But please bring up stuff from 7 years ago.
You say recency matters. You are saying that Oregon beat Michigan. That was 15 years ago. So, what is the deal? These other guys can't state facts from the past (7 years or so), but you can post a win over Michigan from over a decade ago. How's that work?

Welcome to Oregon fan logic... the best thing to do is to just let them go. I feel bad for them right now being left out of the B1G.

Honestly, most OOC W/L are biased and meaningless from a data crunch anyways. Upsets happen, teams don't play that often OOC to really gauge program strength, etc.
