The population of Michigan is part of the reason -- the other part is the fact the school has 50,000 students, so their alumni base is enormous and spread out all across the US and beyond.

I agree OU and UT will see a big hike in viewers, as I know, personally, I can't wait to watch OU and Texas play Bama, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, A&M, etc.
 
I can't see how Phil's money isn't going to help.
It seems like there is just too much of it.

Maybe the 'Pause' is just what Oregon needed

Neat. So you answered your own question then. B1G didn't pick the teams they did because of match-ups next year (well, '24 anyway). They picked them because of LONG TERM STABILITY AND LONG TERM VALUE. It's not rocket science.

Potential what? Your ability to misunderstand the scope of this thing again?

As I explained elsewhere, Nebraska STILL gets a lot more airtime on national sports shows long after their play on the field no longer warrants it. You fail to understand how things are nationally. If the Ducks had a couple of bad years no one would talk about them at all. Same for most non-blue blood programs. USC, Nebraska, even Texas are just different.

USC is a private school. If that doesn't mean something to you, then you have no idea how any of this works. They do not have to answer to the state for ANYTHING. That's a huge advantage over Oregon, UW, and all but one other school in the Pac?
They have money, they have high academics, they have the biggest TV market in the west, they have beaches and a destination almost all teams from the B1G will want to go visit in Sept/Oct just for the weather if nothing else.

You and OD want desperately to be seen as a blue blood program and elite status. Oregon just isn't. Neither is UW nor Utah nor any other team out west. Sorry, but that's reality.

USC will draw attention even if they stay mediocre. It has been that way for a long time and isn't going to change. And in the meantime, they bring a LOT more to the table than any other school out west and it's not even close.
 
I sometimes wonder if Oregon's small stadium hurts their opportunities in realignment. I won't lie, I have had a hard time in the past taking them seriously due to their stadium size but based on tv numbers and merchandise sale, they have a larger fanbase.

To put things in perspective, their stadium is 58,000 in capacity. If they were in the SEC, their stadium is only larger than Vanderbilt. Kentucky's stadium at 61,000 is even larger.

yeah but if you add it's 45,000 uniform combinations.. it surpases the biggest stadiums of the SEC

oregon did have a couple down years and people did still talk about them. and they came back around.

at some point the people stop buying in. block buster match up between 2 storied programs. ends 56-6, next year same thing. next year maybe its a little closer 45-14. following year USC finally wins 24-21. then 3 years in row of 50-10 type scores are people are gonna hear blah blah blah match up of blue bloods but know the game will not be.

Which could happen to Oregon or anyone else. Which is why they wanted a program that brings so much more with it that results on the field don't entirely tank their value.

You think all 10 people who live in Eugene move the needle much on a TV deal when the Ducks are down?
