Electric Cars

Sorry
But phones don't pull 40 amps and 7200 Watts of power for 12 hours
sounds like you are just paranoid for no reason

do you have a problem having your electric furnace run through the night? how about your hot water heater?

And everyone needs to know that when you install a 40 amp car charger in your garage, it requires a new run from the box.
You can't just jump it off the cloths dryer. That's against Code for every single house in America.

So, make sure your 'Electric Box' has the capacity for an upgrade, or you will be looking at Thousands of Dollars to upgrade that.

Just FYI

Oh, or you could use 110 and wait 24 hours.

To be fair lithium batteries do better long term when they charge slower and only charge to like 90%

I'm not sure I'd be comfortable having my cloths dryer or oven set at 500 degrees, running every single night in my garage, night after night after night.....while I sleep
I've heard it compared more to an AC unit or furnace running. Which most people don't have an issue running, in fact might even be necessary to run, while they're away or at night while they're sleeping.

and the car doesn't need to be charging the entire time...

it sounds like you can set the car to say when it stops charging and whatnot

the computers in these things are truly amazing

A 220 car charger delivers 7200 Watts of power.
The average 3 ton A/C unit draws 1000 Watts per ton

A 220 car charger uses 30 amps.
A central A/C unit uses between 7-10 amps

The other option is you could just charge it outside? I guess you don't need to park in your garage if you don't want to while charging.

he's going to make an excuse no matter what you say...it doesn't matter

The more I read about charging the EV, the more I think people have the wrong idea about it.
Maybe it's me.
I'm looking into it.

You think WHICH people are wrong?

I still think the best way to look at EV's is to ignore the stuff about the environment. Because just based on the cost savings and convivence alone EV's should be a great option for a large amount of daily commuters right now. And that should only get better as manufacturers start to improve on the technology and design of these.

There are people who 'soft pedal' the facts.
There are people who 'won't accept' facts at all.

The truth is in between.

I'm even getting some differences in the articles I'm reading also (imagine that), but mostly just trying to move thru as many as I can.

Like this one.
Some good information in it, but doesn't bring up the cost of running your own 240 to the charger by an electrician.

Things like that.

I'm looking at the charger like any home investment. It will benefit you for the rest of your time in the home and can certainly be used as a selling point to add value to the home if you sell. But right now a lot of companies are offering rebates for the installation. My power company (DTE) is offering a $500 credit for that.

a 1 time investment that goes along with buying an EV?

I mean, that's nothing but something you need to budget for.

you keep looking for things to make excuses about.

You are too wrapped up in it.

You confuse my need for information with excuses.
And excuse me if I don't just take your word on it or M&B's.
