My little pea brain is trying to find an electrical calculator that will tell me the cost of an average charge on an EV.

32 Amps delivering 9600 Watts for 8 hours.
What does that cost exactly.

I'll give you an honest review when ours comes in. But like I said, my car will remain gas for the foreseeable future until the EV tech and charging performance (and cost) improves. Right now I couldn't even attempt to replace my 7 seat SUV with an EV without spending $70,000. So the same justification doesn't exist for a $70,000 car.

I ran a new 240 line to an oven at my mothers house last year because of a failed original line.

Do you know how much that cost ???
It's the same for an EV charger

you aren't providing any references, just jumping around trying to find the highest costs you can find so you can shoot down getting an EV.

we get it, you don't want one.

So then don't buy one and move on.

if people are looking at these costs and saying to themselves "I can afford that" then it is no business of yours.

EVs just aren't for the poors yet, but they are getting closer.

We called an electrician here in Ann Arbor and he was charging $1300 to run and install the line for us. The car comes with a charger that does both 220 and 110. So that should be the only cost unless we wanted to be a nice wall mounted charger with retracting cable.

Not very far. A straight line? Probably 15-20'. Our garage sits about 2' lower than the house (we have a couple stairs in the garage up into the house). So theoretically they just need to drill a hole through the basement wall to get into our basement where the box is and probably go 10' one way and 10' down the next wall with conduit to get to the box.

I have a generator hook up in my garage, so I can likely just use that run for an EV charger

In the next few years we will probably have to replace our furnace, when we do that I'm having them put in a generator plug.
 
And something else about running these 240 lines is that you have to match them to the appliance you are using.
You don't run a 50 Amp circuit breaker for a 30 Amp appliance, thinking you will have enough power no matter what, or you might want to upgrade later to a larger unit.

Don't do it. You will burn your house down.

So, while you are having this line run, know this; when technology advances and these things charge faster/need more power, you will have to upgrade your circuit every time you upgrade your charger.
