2023 Recruiting Thread

I responded because there is some truth to what you say. Bama and UGA will be in it at the end for some high-end guys, but Smart is also really good at picking up some 3* guys that were under the radar and blew up their senior year. EJ Lightsey and Andrew Paul last year, Ladd McConkey in 2020 is a great example. Brett Seither and Ryan Goede (TEs) are great examples in 2019.

I really liked your hire ... when we played Cincy in the Peach Bowl in 2020, they ran a lot of video and interviews of Freeman. Dude is impressive. He seems to be the type of coach who your players can relate to. His recruiting has been really, really good thus far. He keeps recruiting like this, you guys get a great contract signed with NBC and ND is going to be a tough out.

Yeah, I feel like he could raise the ceiling of the program with the way he is recruiting. And if he succeeds, he's young enough that he could theoretically stay at ND for the next couple of decades. The floor with Kelly was pretty great the last 7 years or so, but we could never get over the hump, except for the game against Clemson without Lawrence. Overall we have a pretty young staff, which I why I think there has been an uptick in recruiting. Just have to see if it translates to on the field.

Good way of looking at it ... Kelly and ND kind of always have a high floor. Freeman might be able to raise the ceiling. I grew up watching ND football only because it was the only game shown oftentimes. Spent some time there in the late 70s, and then loved our trip there in 2017. Best away game experience we ever had. CFB is better with a ND we can all hate!

I think Freeman has made ND more likeable. But if we start winning like we did in the late 80's and early 90's that will probably change. Lol.

We have a good 1/2 punch at RB with Wisner already committed

Good kid here. I live in Mustang and my kids went to Mustang. He's been over at my house a few times.

Hearing that Keon Keely is all but gone, likely to Alabama. Peyton Bowen is also real iffy at this point. Basically our two best commits to date.

Jordan Matthews 4 star DB from Baton Rouge picked TN over UT/UM/LSU earlier

all Cbs and futurecasts were for UT :(

Yeah, I have become increasingly more worried with Keeley. I think he's probably gone too. Sucks because he's been committed for over a year now. Hopefully Bowen stays. Obviously that'll be a huge hit to our ranking. Really don't have many options available at this point.

luckily they are in on some other ones... we still have a stud in Muhammed as one CB and a stud Safety in Williams.. Matthews was more of a nickel from our $9.95ers.. still a big miss.. I wonder if him knowing Toviano might be coming gave him pause knowing TN doesn't have anyone better than him coming in as of now?

seems like it's up in the air between y'all and aggy.. I'd watch out for aggy, they need to close in on some kids

They got the money bags and we got the Denton kids so should be interesting.

These really early commits, especially from guys like Keeley (Out of region player from the south) mean even less these days until the ink actually dries on the LOI. Hell now they don't even mean anything after the LOI is signed with the open transfer portal lol.

I've started to basically assume guys from like SEC territory who commit pretty early will not end up in the class in the end. Once a Bama or whoever down there comes seriously calling and pushing hard they are gone. It is what it is though.

We had a TE from Tennessee who was the 1st commit for the 2023 class well over a year ago. Seemed as solid as it gets but then Bama came along recently and offered with serious interest/push and he flipped ship the next day.

My main issue is, if you’re going to go, then go. Don’t leave the current staff hanging and then have to scramble to replace him. You’re not going to replicate that level of talent but you can get close if you keep your options open.
