There is rich irony in folks calling out the show for changing a character to a black man to appease the mobs, and then wondering when they will force pedophilia on us.

The very last season's probably second to the last episode but she was an adult by then. It was cringy because it just seemed wrong because we had watched this kid grow up.

As a father of daughters I can agree with this. It wasn’t wrong in any age kind of way….but I kind of watched her grow up….kind of.

Made it uncomfortable.
 
I did a bit of research, and it seems like the quick answer is that as long as the actor/actress is of age, you are OK. But it seems to be a bit of a touchy subject that tends to be avoided most of the time by producers. There was an adult film where the female character stated something to the effect of “I am 12 years old”, even though the actress was an adult and the producer/directed was sentenced to 5 years and served 2.5 years.

I think at the end of the day, it falls under the “I know it when I see it” category of pedophelia.

Good of you to do the research, so I’m not being critical.

But, if the porn actress was of age how does the director do years in jail over anything she says if there isn’t a hard and fast law?

Seems there is more to that example.

Agreed. The guy was an admitted “fringe element” director, and was constantly getting charged for the shit he did (I am really just regurgitating a summary I found, so don’t push me too hard on specifics). However, I think this was his only actual conviction. Maybe it was some kind of plea?

Anyway, Blue Lagoon had full frontal of an 8 year old girl running around AND the swimming scene with a body double of Brook Shields who was (I think) 14 when she made that movie. Neither of those scenes were sexual, though, so that probably weighed in.

Kids had lots of sex scenes, but I don’t remember there being any nudity.

Lolita is a movie that gets remade every 10 years or so, and is about a minor, but every time the movie is made, it stars an adult actress, but I am pretty sure most have actual nudity.
 
And I know in movies that I accidentally come across on the innerwebz, if there is any question about the scene, they almost always have a throw-away statement like “did you have fun on your 18th birthday last week?” just to cover their bases.

Per IMDB, Birch was 17 when her topless scene was filmed, but her parents signed off on the scene and child labor reps were on set supervising.

That was my guess. Some places still have general laws that can be applied to these situations. They aren’t obscenity laws and maybe (depending at the time this happened) could side step first amendment arguments.

Whatever it was it was clearly meaty enough to get the guy wrapped up well.

This make no sense to me. How can a parent determine when it's okay for their daughter to show her tits, and yet it's illegal to look at them?
