TV Series Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon

House Velaryon is still around in the time of the original Game of Thrones (though they never appeared on screen), just not quite as rich and powerful as they were during the time of this prequel -- however, they are still the most powerful House among Stannis's bannermen and play a significant role in the books.

Wow.
I read the books (the 5 ASoIaF books, not any of the other ones) twice.
For the life of me, I don't recall House Velaryon.

Velaryon was mentioned in the prologue of the clash of kings. Also mentioned in the TV show

But never seen. That allowed the directors to take a woke approach.

Why don't they have dragons like the Targs if they also came form Valeria?

House Celtigar is also Valyrian, but like House Velaryon, they are not dragonriders either. Most Valyrians were not dragonriders. The Valyrian Houses that were dragonriders were known as dragonlords, and they were the most powerful Houses in Valyria and so all of the dragonlord Houses except the Targaryens were still staying/living/ruling in Valyria when Valyria was destroyed.

House Targaryen was the single exception, the only dragonlord House to survive, because their ancestor Daenys Targaryen was forewarned by a dream that Valyria was going to be destroyed, so they alone of all the dragonlord Houses got out of Valyria before it was destroyed.

I thought there were a lot of dragonriding familys in Valyria, something like 120+ and the Targaryens were just a lower level dragon family but they just happened to be the one that went Westeros or survive the doom.

There’s another thread for book readers, dipstick.

exactly. People are asking questions & he was answering them.
From the books. There’s no way to know they’re spoilers. Which is the whole fucking point of having a book readers thread.

Saying someone isnt black in the book has no bearing on anything that will happen in the show. Nor saying someone wasnt a lezbo in the book.
Hollywood often makes changes to characters. Something some of us non book guys dont mind knowing.

I just know becuase there has never been any mention of another family with dragons in Westeros. If they had them in Valerya that's one thing.

Yes, that's what I said in my post. All the other dragonlord Houses besides the Targaryens died, which is why House Velaryon doesn't have dragons.

They must have been some poverty house then without dragons. How did they become so wealthy in Westeros?

What House Velaryon lacked in dragons, they made up for in ships. They had the greatest fleet in the Westeros, and thus control over trade. The island they rule, Driftmark, is a major trade stop between the Free Cities of Essos and the mainland of Westeros. They are the single House closest-allied and most-related to the Targaryens, and thus have deep royal connections from which they have greatly benefited.

Finally, Corlys Velaryon is the greatest known mariner in the history of Westeros, and made nine celebrated distant sea voyages, going as far as places like the Golden Empire of Yi Ti (the equivalent in the Game of Thrones world of China), returning with exotic rare trade goods that made House Velaryon fantastically wealthy.

I'm talking pre-westeros though, when they were back in Valeria but weren't a dragon house.

?? Your original question that I answered was "How did they become so wealthy in Westeros."

Before they got to Westeros, House Velaryon was a minor House. They weren't dragonlords, and they weren't wealthy or powerful in Valyria.

Creates separate thread for book stuff.
Everyone just talks about book stuff in original thread.

And double down on it when called out on it.

It’s incredible how dumb y’all are.

The entire and only point of a readers thread is so that people who don’t want to know what the books say can take the Series as it comes to them with no:
-parameters
-potential parameters
-spoilers
-potential spoilers
- etc.

It is THE ONLY AND ENTIRE POINT of making a thread for readers.

It’s insane how dumb you people are.

Go to the other thread with discussions from the book.
