When's Day Morning Thread

See if my vacation request is granted. I put in for 8 Fridays starting on the 23rd this month. I have 15 days worth to use, and my boss was on me to at least you some of them when I last talked to him (forever ago it seems) I put it so that it also gives me Nov 27th, Christmas & New Years off as well since those are holidays on our calendar and not having to use vacation.

DOE in Idaho Falls

working on new nuclear technology
what kind of work do you do? I remember there was (is?) a navy training reactor out there, but I ended up in New York instead.

I do engineering at a nuclear plant in MD. My degree is in Chemical Engineering, but I have done mostly mechanical and some electrical over the last few years.

I mean, at first glance it looks like a cool spot. Near Yellowstone and Jackson Hole...I googled tennis leagues already, but not golf...

I don't need a busy city center to be happy...and it looks like I can easily find activities to keep me busy.
To be far, Idaho Falls is not Arco, which is where I lived. Arco is about 25 miles or so from the "site" and about 65 miles west of Idaho Falls. Arco's claim to fame was it was the first town lit by atomic power, which was generated from the nuc site. Arco is situated on a high desert/prairie plane surrounded by sagebrush and jackrabbits.

I'm not sure what facility IF has now with the site, but I know there were caravans of buses that took workers out to the site back in the day. When my wife and I dropped out of the mountains and hit the long straight highway that led to the site, at sunset, with scores of buses around us and barbed wire with federal warning signs, I said aloud, "We are now in the Twilight Zone.

Idaho Falls is not a bad town and is on the edge between lots of cool outdoor activities and the nothingness that is central Idaho. The park is relatively close by. The western and norther parts of the state are also quite scenic.

Heavily Mormon area.

So you likely work with a lot of my kind. God bless you.

I like its potential right now...

I didn't realize how far west it was...my middle America geography is terrible.

that's no where near Idaho Falls...

I mean, they are both in Idaho...

I already referred to Idaho Falls as a bumfuck town, because that's what it is...

I currently live in bumfuck MD, so I can handle that sort of thing just fine.

Quite beautiful. I'm afraid the richie riches may be taking over the area, though.

That place is basically Vermont in flyover country. Turned down a job there. Too middle of nowhere for me.
