Smells like the PAC's demise is going to be sooner rather than later. I'm thinking Stanford and Cal, but maybe the Arizona schools as well?

Wouldn't a Big 12 wish list look like this
1. Washington
2. Oregon
3. Stanford
4. Utah
5. Arizona State
6. Arizona

and so on

They aren't in position to offer the crazy stupid money to make it worth all that travel like B1G was for USC and UCLA. Didn't read it, but no way they are looking at 100m/yr numbers.

Now that the playoffs are expanding and there is nearly a guaranteed playoff spot for the conference championship no matter who is left it makes it less appealing to bail at the first offer unless it comes with stupid money.

It depends on if Oregon and Washington push hard to get a bigger piece of the PAC pie than the other schools. If that happens I wouldn’t bet on the Arizona schools saying fuck you.

The Big 12 could add AZ, ASU, Utah and Colorado without much of a travel issue at all. Plus I’m betting all those schools want better access to the Texas recruiting market.

It just takes two schools to leave and the PAC folds at that point and the Big 12 cherry picks

That's about right. The top 3 are fart sniffers though. Utah and the Arizona schools aren't traditional members and they have been told by the top 3 that revenue sharing is gonna be unequal so I think they are the ones that bolt. I'm sure the top 3 will be fine eventually but it will be interesting to see how much of a lowball offer they get from the B1G when option B is domination of the MWC.

are you suggesting its easier travel to UCF, Cinci and WVU than to UW WSU Oregon Oregon State?

ASU to UCF about 2100 miles
ASU to WSU 1200 miles
utah to WVU just under 1900
utah to washington 832

2 leave pac offers schools like San Diego state and Boise before they fold.

I agree with this.

If more schools leave the PAC, then the Mountain West or whatever smaller conference will be the one raided into extinction.

He mentioned Bball which screams Arizona to me IMO.

The move has to be a protective one. When you are a PAC team, and you know that Oregon, Wash, Stanford and Cal will jump the second they get an offer, it's time to look for a landing spot where you are wanted, valued, and have some future stability.

If I ran the Big TwelbyTwelb, my wish list would start with Arizona and ASU. I think those schools fit in perfectly with the current Xii. Automatic travel partners.

After the Zona schools, I'd want Utah and Colorado. Again, instant travel partners and they seem to fit in more with the Xii culture.

Finally, I wouldn't want any school that had ever lobbied actively to prevent any of my religitable schools from joining the PAC. We'd probably all be happier with that arrangement.

The Utah v. BYU connection is nice in this scenario.

Geography/distance don’t matter anymore. USC/UCLA just signed on to go to Rutgers and Maryland….they’ll just be getting a lot bigger check than the Zonas would to travel that far.

i was directly responding to a statement that addressed travel. geography might not matter but cost of travel still does. at some point the money doesnt balance the same when travel becomes a greater distance.
for the amount USC and UCLA will be getting that is a different story than what 4 corners in the BigXII would be.

I'm afraid to ask
happy season 3 GIF

so its probably like is said the other day, they got numbers based on a number of scenarios including staying at 12 vs going after 2, 4, or 6 teams in pac and how that money looks dividing it that number of ways

I think you mean that we would say 'fuck you'. We aren't that much of pushovers.

I agree though, there is NO reason that Washington and Oregon deserve more money than the Arizona schools.

The Big12 likes flagship universities so Arizona, Utah, Colorado, are likely high priority targets and real possibilities for them. If they nab ASU too then that gives the conference two new/good rivalry games to go to the bargaining table with. I wont be totally shocked to see the Big12 get SDSU for that market and to get into California.
Cal, Stanford and Washington just scream BIG targets. Oregon is interesting, to me they SHOULD be the no brainer of the desired PAC schools, but the waters seem to be muddy on where they end up.
