Fair enough. My household would not function without her. We decided roles pretty early in our relationship. I’m the breadwinner. She gave up her career to run the household. If I had to do all of the shit that she does, most of it wouldn’t get done.
I insisted on 2 things: she needed a college degree and she needed to be a working professional pulling in good money. Worked out for a while. But being an Asian, her family came before our privacy in marriage and she ballooned up in weight. I had enough.
My wife has a college degree and is an accountant. She is capable of making decent money, but I have always made considerably more. We didn’t want our kids to be raised by strangers, so she largely stepped away from her career (although she still makes around $50K freelancing). She takes care of all of the household logistics. She’s Asian as well, so family comes into play, but the immediate family always takes priority over the extended family.
You lucked out there. In our case the extended family guilted the hell out of her and sucked a significant amount of resources away even those we had agreed to put that aside for ourselves and the kids. “It’s my family, how can I deny them!!!” I said easy. Tell them to fuck off. Chaos ensued.
It didn’t help that I started fucking all her friends when she gained a lot of weight…
So, I bear some fault.
With her family, literally everyone has a college degree (or more). Both of her sisters are nurses (Filipino), so they make decent money on their own.
