I don't want to get into a chest-thumping post, but you have to go past "it's all Bama." By every other measure, the SEC has been just as dominant versus other conferences in the last 20 years. Choose your measuring stick - recruiting, top 10 finishes, top 25 finishes, NFL draft, bowl games, conference v. conference, and even things like demographic changes of people from the north to the south, or California going from football playing demo graphics to non-football playing demographics. To me, it still looks bad, and I say that as someone who, as I said just above, wants parity. As for "it's all Bama" keep in mind part of that is because the SEC schools have to go through Bama ... if they weren't there, it's highly likely it could have been or would have been other SEC programs winning many of those natties. I mean 3 of the last 10 years NC games had 2 SEC teams - going back to LSU v. Bama.
I agree and hope that NIL, transfer portal and CFP expansion will drive parity. I am fearful that the big TV deals will not. Maybe SEC and B1G, but I am concerned about the other conferences.
In the 3 that they didn't win, UGA would have won 2 - in 2012 and 2017. What about the other 1?I didn't say the SEC still wouldn't have been the dominant conference of the era, I just said it wouldn't look nearly as bad if Bama were to only have won, say 1 or 2 national championships like the other schools instead of 5

In just the last 3 years Pelini was at Nebraska, he beat #9 Michigan State, #12 Penn State, #20 Michigan, #22 Georgia.No. They were calling for his head for getting blown out when playing anyone with a pulse.

Close enough? Hell they were embarrassing. Many were on national TV. It was plain to anyone with even the slightest football knowledge, that Pelini had no ability to make adjustments in the game.In just the last 3 years Pelini was at Nebraska, he beat #9 Michigan State, #12 Penn State, #20 Michigan, #22 Georgia.
So when he lost games -- they weren't close enough?
Or 70-31 to a 5 loss Wisconsin team?Seems that Pelini's time at Nebraska was similar to Clay Helton's at USC.
He won plenty of games, had some double digit win seasons, won a PAC title and a Rose Bowl...but every time they played the type of team they measure themselves against, they were overmatched.
There's no shame in losing to, for example, Alabama...unless you lose 52-6.![]()
There is an enormous difference in recruiting between USC and Nebraska. Take Lincoln Riley's last second put together recruiting class.Seems that Pelini's time at Nebraska was similar to Clay Helton's at USC.

Domani Jackson would be the highest rated recruit in the last 22 years if he had signed with Nebraska, instead of USC.
Domani Jackson, Raleek Brown, Zion Branch and CJ Williams would all rank in the top 10 recruits signed by Nebraska since 2000.
USC has access to recruits that Nebraska simply does not. So expecting excellence from USC is understandable, as they can bring in top 5 recruiting classes every year with the talent they have around them.
In 2012, Bama beat us in the last minute in one of the best SECCG's ever. Under your statement that if Bama didn't do Bama, it's highly likely UGA is the SECC that year and we would have beaten the brakes off Notre Dame. They were outclassed badly in that game, it was never close. In 2017 we literally lost to Bama in the NC in OT, so I am going to assume that we win that one.I'm guessing you meant to type SEC not UGA in the first sentence. Clemson beat Bama in the other one, but you are assuming LSU and Georgia automatically win that night if faced with a different opponent. Oklahoma State had a dang good team in 2011-12 and Georgia played a very close game to Oklahoma so it's not unbelievable to think another team could have won if we magically erase Bama from the picture
Nebraska won 72% of the games he coached. Won 4 bowl games. Not sure of the total number of ranked teams he beat, but he beat 4 ranked teams in the last 3 years he was there.Close enough? Hell they were embarrassing. Many were on national TV. It was plain to anyone with even the slightest football knowledge, that Pelini had no ability to make adjustments in the game.
I was a firm supporter of Bo Pelini, but his penchant for mediocrity had no place in college football.
They signed with Oklahoma because USC was a train wreck. It is the same reason for about a decade, Ohio State has raided the state of Texas and Florida. The same reason Bryce Young committed to USC and flipped to Alabama. And those players mainly chose USC because of Lincoln Riley. Also, some of that influx of new players are players who committed to him at Oklahoma then flipped when he went to USC.
If Nebraska can hire a Lincoln Riley level coach or close to it. They can get those kinds of recruits as well.

They flipped to USC because the coach was coming to USC. The coach came to USC because the school is located in California and it is LIGHT YEARS EASIER to sign recruits in your own backyard that grew up rooting, watching and cheering on the program, than it is to convince them to travel 100's to 1000's of miles to attend a school.
Exactly, and those types of players currently aren't going to Nebraska for the same reason they weren't choosing USC. Get a Lincoln Riley level coach and Nebraska will start getting those kinds of recruits...especially if they establish a good NIL collective.
While USC does have an advantage because they are in the middle of a great recruiting ground, because of scholly limits, they can't sign everyone and they don't fit everyone's personality. I remember during the Pete Carroll era there were a couple of recruits (one went to tOSU) because he didn't think the atmosphere was "serious enough".
I know that for some reason you are weirdly attached to this "Nebraska will never be Nebraska again" narrative...but you're wrong.
I am going to bookmark this for 41 years and 1 day from 1997. It's already been 25 years for you guys, 41 is just around the corner.Georgia's won 1 natty in the last 41 years.
Reading Georgia fans and WhoPhoneDis, one would think it was Georgia who's won 6 natties since 2009.
Since 2000, Nebraska has signed TWO five star recruits. That isn't 2 a year. That is 2 in 22 years. The reason a coach like Lincoln Riley wouldn't go to Nebraska -- they don't have the five star talent in state like California does. That's why he made the change.Exactly, and those types of players currently aren't going to Nebraska for the same reason they weren't choosing USC.
