There are no good teams this year…

Between Texas A&M and Michigan State -- they are fighting with each other over who gave out the worst contract in CFB history to their coach.
there are likely a few idiots, but for the most part we are still ok with Jimbo's contract.

The Big12 this year reminds me of SEC Basketball lately.

There are a lot of good teams but no real great team in it. I think most the Big12 teams would do well in any league but there isn't a team in the Big12 that would go into the B1G or SEC and compete to win the conference. I also think Clemson would beat everyone in the Big12 and I am not sure about the top of the Pac12 but it looks better right now too.

However, I don't see a Big12 team that would languish at the bottom of any of the Power 5 leagues except maybe Oklahoma and West Virginia. Even then, I think those teams will get it fixed. So no real bad team and some potentially very good teams as well but no elite teams.

I'd have Michigan ahead of Ohio St.

Ohio St struggled to put Notre Dame away in Columbus. It was 14-10 Buckeyes with 4:00 remaining in the 4th Q.
Notre Dame lost to Marshall in South Bend the following week.

Michigan's got better line play and beat tOSU soundly last season.

I am starting to like Clemson a little. They could be that fly in the ointment team that makes it into playoffs and shocks the field.
Clemson winning wouldn’t be a shock at all. Bama, Georgia, Ohio State and Clemson wouldn’t be a shock. Anyone else would be. Sans LSU’s miracle year, no one besides those four have won in the CFP era have they?

you mean: “The big12 middle is better than any other conference middle.”

Hmmmm. Where have we heard that before???

Dunce.

I am not sure about the middle (It also may depend on how you define the middle) but there really isn't a bad team in the Big12. Just not any great teams either. The exceptions might be Oklahoma State and TCU. I am curious to see how they hold up as the season goes on.

IMO there isn't one team that can't beat another. Iowa State, OU and West Virginia are currently at the bottom of the standings. And all three of those can beat the other seven. That makes for a good conference race but usually eliminates a team from the playoffs. For the most part, conferences need one team to run away from the rest. Isn't the SEC the only conference to get more than one team in the CFP?

Now that I said that, watch one of the Big 12 teams go through the conference slate unscathed.

Possible. It is like SEC Basketball though, if there was a 64/32 team playoff, most of them wouldn't even make it to the Sweet 16. Definitely balance but mediocrity.

SEC actually has beaten the Big12 or tied them the last 3 years in Big12-SEC Basketball challenge but reputation-wise, the Big12 is considered a far better basketball conference (and it should be).

More than likely that perception is only because the conference has back to back nattys and a close loss in the final by three separate teams the past three tourneys. Without those, I doubt they would be perceived as being any better. There really isn't a whole lot of difference in all 6 conferences in hoops.

What if....

Kansas doesn't make a bowl game? Is there a win there? maybe Texas Tech? Texas?

TCU, OU, Tech, and KSU are all within the range of doable. Not saying they'll be favored to win any of them, but they'll win *at least* one.

I think they're straight up better than Texas Tech.

To think that OU could be home underdog to Kansas for homecoming in football next week is appauling.

I mean, I can't argue against it. You guys had like 5 different straight up coverage busts against TCU.

Toss-up: @ OU, @ TTU, vs OKST, vs Texas

Unlikely but possible: vs TCU, @ Baylor, @ KSU
