If you have a school willing to write a blank check, like A&M did -- sure it could push a team ahead.
But the elite programs now have deep pocket boosters too. If they see a shift, they will do the same. Hell, Ryan Day met with OSU's booster club and flat out said they need about $13 million to keep the team together. Not for 4 years, but to keep it together for the next year.

It is becoming ridiculous, but it is, what it is. I still think you will see the top recruits going to same handful of schools. They will make money guaranteed at any of those schools.

With the portal -- i see it helping teams fill holes. Occasionally you will strike gold, like LSU with Burrow. But mostly it just helps the next level teams not have as many weaknesses. QB is the one position where it can change a teams fortune, like Hooker leaving VT to go to Tennessee.

Not sure if OU wants to be laughing at Riley/USC. He has them competing nationally in year 1, while OU has given up 41, 55, 49 and 42 in their last 4 games.

I understand the hostility towards him, as I'd feel the same if a Michigan HC, left to take another college HC job, but he has USC looking WAY better than they have looked in a long, long time.

I was thinking some “non biggie” might just “target” 6-8 big time recruits instead of a whole class… like Deion did with that one kid. Can’t afford a whole class but pick off a few from the biggies.

The hell it doesn't. First, the day would have been just as wild. You don't think all those upsets, and storming of the fields wouldn't have happened? Sure they would have. And you don't think those losses didn't have consequences? The hell they didn't. See my post on what the 12 CFP would look like today and if you don't think that CFB will be better, I don't know what you are looking at.

Bama's case -- the loss isn't a big deal as it isn't to a team in their division, so they can win out and still get in.

USC is essentially out now, where as in a 12 team, they could lose one more and still get in.

Amongst the many things I don't agree with, the one thing absolutely wrong is that by the time we have a 12-team CFP the SEC will be divisionless. So, the Bama loss to UTjr puts them behind the 8 ball to get to the SECCG.

And let's say that UTjr is really fucking good, but so is Bama, and they just went toe to toe and one team won. Why would you not want the other team to still have a chance rather than be eliminated in the 7th week of a 13 week season?

Finally, having a son who goes to Bama and some good friends that are Bama and UTjr fans, if you think the 12 team CFP would in any way reduce the hate between those two teams, and the joy for UTjr and the agony for Bama, you aren't keeping up with current events.

You have continuously projected your feelings on what everyone else in CFB thinks. You are way in the minority. If it's going to suck so bad, why are the networks going to pony up for around $2 billion for the rights to televise the 11 games when right now they are paying around $400 million for 3? That's almost double the money per game.

Let's hope so - NIL, free agency, and expanded playoff opportunity should drive some parity into CFB.

There will always be disparity ... you can't have a draft, and you likely can't have a salary cap. Some schools have geographical recruiting advantages. And some schools have never been in the cool school clique and never will be. But, in a 12 team CFP we have at least 20 teams still in it after week 7. And there are amazing games coming up that will mix everything up.

He's just stating fact. And you'd be laughing at your ex-coach making the same tired statement he made for years when his defense gave up the game, again.

The ways it would matter are insignificant for Alabama. But in the current system, they’re going to struggle to make it in at this point.

Why do you not want the best teams in the playoffs? What if UTjr and Bama are two of the best 4? Why allow one loss to eliminate any team?

We won't agree, but I'd argue a system that for years didn't allow for the best teams to play each other was a bug, not a feature. CFB was great in spite of itself. They are now correcting it and that is why so many people like it now and will in the future.

Obviously you have to have the coaching and unless you are Bama, an elite QB, though Bama has had elite QB's lately too with Tua and Bryce Young.

I think A&M have the coaching, but they don't have the QB.
