It is Mid-October and there are over 10 teams still in serious contention for the Title

Hell ill even admit the only reason we got into the playoff in 2014 was more than likely due to the name Ohio State.

We wouldnt had got in if it were Texas or USC up against us for that last spot. We got it because it was TCU and Baylor.
But the name "Florida State" was just as guilty of getting in on "name" that year as you guys were. But that's hindsight but it showed in how they played in the semi. Nearly everyone knew they were a paper tiger based on their season. But they were an undefeated/defending national champ that a committee wasn't going to leave out....even if they were sliding by in games they should have dominated on their way to that season.

Names matter....and so does recent success.

Didn't you win the B1G in 2014?

Also, I find it funny you mention USC when they did get left out in 2003 and several other years in 2000s.

2003 probably should have been LSU vs. USC.

That was because of the stupid ass BCS though.

100% woulda been LSU vs USC if it were solely humans making the final decision

The last few posts are why I am advocating for extended playoffs. I think the Power 5 should all have auto-bids to playoffs (well maybe an exception if the Champion has 3 losses or more).

Yea hard to knock them putting FSU in when they were undefeated, even though yes it was not a pretty undefeated. Losses do have to count at some point though.

Ohio State was not a playoff caliber team in 2016 either.

We basically got in because there were no other options. Penn State beat us on some fluke shit and they lost 2 games. Ohio State was the only 1 loss P5 left and had wins against #6 #7 and #8 in the final CFP ranking. Bama and Clemson were the only "elite" teams that year and it was clear.

Here is a example from a doofus at ESPN about ESPN getting super horny over the SEC

For the record I'm not doubting that Tennessee is a great team with a high level offense.

But this man props Pitt a "big win" Pitt couldn't beat Georgia Tech......

You know why the SEC gets hyped?

Since the start of the BCS, 6 different SEC teams have won a combined 14 natties

Next closest is the ACC with 3 programs combining for 5, and Miami was still in the Big East for their contribution to that.

You want your conference to get more hype? Start winning some natties with multiple programs

Yes hyping teams that have had no success based on the success of the better teams in the conference makes total sense.

Bama and UGA are good so that must mean Kentucky and South Carolina are as well!

Other teams should not be getting extended benefit of the doubt because Bama and UGA have been super successful of late.

Who is hyping SCar?

And Kentucky is a good team and has been for years now.

When the B1G winner gets boat raced in the semi finals, it’s kinda hard to hype em

Kentucky has 2 top 25 finishes in the last 10 years. I think average-mediocre is the word you're looking for, not "good". They havent been horrible outside of 2012 & 2013 but "good for years" is a stretch.

It's really the language of how it's framed.

If you said "kentucky hasnt been terrible they have been about average for the most part"

I'd agree.

But it has to get framed as OH NO THEY ARE GOOD!

A consistent 8 game winner with a couple 10 win seasons mixed in. Pretty good IMO. Good relative to Bama? No. Good relative to most of the country l? Yes

You want the B1G to get hyped, they need to start winning some playoff games. SEC has never missed out on the playoffs and have only lost one semi final game. That’s why they get hyped, and rightfully so. You wanna be king, you gotta take the crown

Average.

No one is claiming Iowa as "good" they are a average team that can win 10 here and there, but they really arent a real title threat. Iowa and Kentucky are about equal. Difference is we are led to believe one is a "legit threat!" while the other is just called what they are.

All of those playoff games outside of the ones LSU won are by either Bama or UGA

It's basically 2 teams and the rest of the conference riding their coattails.

I’d call Iowa a good team.

So Texas A&M should rightfully keep getting overrated every year because Bama and UGA constantly make the playoff?

This logic makes sense.

You reckon two of the top programs in the country being in the conference hurt the records of other teams?

Instead of crying about it, beat em and do something about it. Let the SEC got 5 years without a natty and the hype stops

I’d call Iowa a good team.

There's really only a handful of great teams from year to year then the rest are pretty much interchangeable after.

Nobody is ever actually scared of Kentucky or Iowa. They might bite you in the ass once in awhile, but its not a constant thing.

You gotta figure one of these years those recruiting classes will turn into something. But there’s only 12 teams in my SEC.
