With the exception of Georgia last year, I think the only team that has made playoffs without winning their conference is Alabama.

All 1 loss teams have a chance. LSU has a chance as a 2 loss team because they could win the SEC and beat Alabama and Georgia.

However, there's a 90% chance the 4 team playoff will be some combination of these teams: Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Michigan, Ohio State and Clemson.

BTW, to change course, what if Penn State beats Ohio State wins out and Ohio State beats Michigan?

You would have a 3-way B1G tie.

Also didn't help their cause their other loss was by 39 points.

I was torn that year bc on one hand, you always want your team to have a shot, but on the other, I knew that team was capable of winning in the playoffs.

Yes -- they absolutely have a shot, if Georgia isn't there. And yes, they all laughed. I actually felt bad for Oregon fans after seeing them react like that, because they all laughed.

Probably woulda had a better case if they beat us solidly instead of the fluky way it came about, at home for them too.

Ohio State also won their "Big" OOC game @ Oklahoma

as mentioned Penn State flopped against a 5 loss pitt team.

They also didn't do themselves any favors by not overwhelmingly beating Wisconsin in the B1G title game. Hell they trailed going into the 4th quarter and at one point were down 28-7. We saw how winning a conference title game big can drastically sway opinion with Ohio State in 2014.

When you are a 2 loss team going up against 1 loss teams you have to really stand out in those types of situations, Penn State did not.
