Lions Trade Hockenson To Vikings

I think it was a great trade for Vikes.

But also not a bad one for Lions. Got solid value. Cant worry about it going within the division. Vikes and Lions are on far different competing timelines.

Wonder if teams will learn to stop drafting TEs in the 1st round?

This trade prompted me to do a little statistical analysis while I ate lunch. Counting all TEs in the league with 20+ receptions as of right now, I found that the average draft position of those 22 TEs is 84.5 (second half of the 3rd round) and that includes two guys who were undrafted (I counted them as 265). The two guys who were drafted in the top-10 hold almost the same statistical value as the two guys who were undrafted.

Ultimately, this analysis shows:
- you can find a useful TE anywhere in the draft
- drafting them in the first round is a waste - doing very little to improve productivity probability
- drafting them somewhere within the late-2nd through 3rd round improves your bang-for-buck probability

God I hate this f'ing team

They’re like that drunk uncle who won’t stop drinking. And just when you’re willing to give him one last final chance, he gets wasted on Jäegermeister and kicks your car window out with a soccer ball.

This happened to me, so i know.

Latest report says he'd be out 8-10 weeks anyway. Hockenson is a good get for the VIkings.
I like the trade

Smith has been a bust for Vikings, always hurt (which is one thing) but even when healthy just not effective. Signals vikings will be moving on from Irv. If MN is giving up 2nd, they don't view this as rental

You barely have to give him a raise if you tag him.

thats pretty good.
I didnt have your stats but was thinking early 3rd round for bang for buck.
So your late 2nd to the 3rd rounds sound pretty spot on. To where my thoughts were at. Witten was a 3rd, Doug Cosbie was a 3rd

I cringe at the idea of Cowboys taking a TE before the 3rd.
Gavin Escobar (2nd)
Anthony Fasano (2nd)
David LaFleur (1st)
Kendell Watkins (2nd) Who?
Todd Christensen (2nd) but we traded away. (that was 1978)
Got to go all the way back to 1973 before Cowboys had a quality TE from the 1st two rounds.
Billy Joe Dupree (1st)

Interesting move by the Vikings. Their current TE, Smith, is out with a high ankle sprain and will miss a few weeks. So, this is a high quality replacement.

They're going for it this year. They do seem to be the contending NFC team that everyone forgets about.
Miami going all in too. They added Bradley Chubb from the Broncs.

Even if you look at the greatest TEs of all time, the results are pretty similar. Top 10 in receptions all time:

17 of the 23 years 25 TEs has been taken in the 1st round. You would think the NFL would stop falling for the cant miss TE, especially in the early 1st round.

So while I think it is a good fit & move for the Vikes to land Hockenson. It is a good recovery move by the Lions to get a 2nd rd pick for a TE. (they used a 1st on)

You should lay off the Jäegermeister

Hard to sell this being a good move for Detroit. Signing a first who didn’t bust would be a good move.

they got a 2nd rd. draft pick for a TE that isnt an all pro. its a nice recovery move. (they cant take back the fact they used a 1st on a TE)

He’s a 25 year old pro bowl TE. And they sent two other picks with him.

Nobody is gonna be an All Pro until Kelce retires or Mark Andrews loses a leg.

They had a young, productive TE. Now they don’t.

please stop using probowls as if it means anything anymore.
Half the league makes the probowl. he is a decent talent that, they got a 2nd for.
TEs arent worth a 1st rd. & regurgitated TEs arent worth a second. (near the end of a rookie contract)

:laugh3: Completely agree!

Nope. Now they have a 2nd round pick & a reset on rookie contracts.
He wasnt a difference maker for the Lions. Losing him isnt gonna change that team.

Four Tight Ends were Pro Bowlers last year.

Hyperbole doesnt make a point.

I swear to you. If you are one of those type of guys that think Probowls should be apart of their resumes in importance.
We should just stop talking to each other.
