Ole Miss at least has a P5 OCC win on their schedule... and they beat Troy 28-10. Troy has a 4-point win over South Alabama..who they played on the road, UCLA won by 1 on a last-second field goal at home.

I would be willing to give 7 points and take Ole Miss or LSU over the trio on a neutral.

Depends on what LSU you are talking about. LSU has gotten better and better as season has progressed. Still, I am not sold yet that they are really a contender for SEC West. They still look like an 8-4 type team to me.

They usually get the top 2 right every year...I think they are 7 out of 8 for both #1 and #2 making the playoffs...

The #3 spot though...things are a little dicey if you are the #3 in the first ranking...1 out of 8.

Still standing by what I said...Oregon, UCLA, USC look like no better than 8-4 teams to me too...in the SEC.

I am not sure that I agree. I think those 3 teams are a little better than an 8-4 type team in SEC. I don't think they have their current record but they are better.

It also depends heavily on their schedule. Not all SEC Schedules are that tough. Look at Georgia's to date for example (although Georgia is in a tough 4 game slate of Florida, TN, @ Miss State, and Kentucky).

I brought up UK example of where they have a lot more wins than Tennessee over last 10 years but Tennessee has just dominated that series because UK traditionally has easier SEC Schedules. Give UK, Georgia, or Ole Miss's schedule to Oregon and they likely have the same record as they do now. Give them Auburn or Tennessee's schedule and you might be correct.

Auburn and Tennessee typically have the most difficult schedules year in and year out because they both play Alabama and Georgia as permanent opponents. Tennessee also has to get Florida while Auburn has to play LSU.

Tennessee has also been very unfortunate with it's SEC West draws over last 15 years in that their SEC West draw is typically having its best season and is ranked in top 15.

For example the last time Tennessee played the Aggies, they were ranked #9.

Tennessee played Ole Miss last year when they were having their best season in 15 years.

Tennessee played Arkansas under Petrino and Miss State with Dan Mullen when they were top 10.

In every league, not every schedule is built the same.

A great example of a tough schedule this year is Vanderbilt who drew Alabama as their rotating opponent and has Ole Miss as their permanent opponent. They also have to play Georgia and Tennessee. They had Wake Forest as an OOC game. I see the Pac12 teams struggling with Vandy's schedule but anyone would in that situation.

Quite possible. If we don't win out, we're not going. I think the oddsmakers put you guys at 41% even with a loss. Tennessee's chances actually go up with a loss, lol. Likely because they are figuring if you beat Tennesee you will likely beat us..putting 1 loss Tenn back in the mix.

I think LSU is exactly what you described, but they boosted them to #10 so they can hedge pushing them into the playoff with 2 losses if they happen to manage to win out.

LSU get absolutely destroyed AT HOME by Tennessee

People talk about Oregon being "disqualified" because of that blowout in a virtual road game to UGA (Dont give me that neutral site shit, game was played in UGAs back yard)

But LSU getting walloped AT home by Tennessee is all good and forgotten.

Alabama has wins over Arkansas and Miss State. Those are solid wins.

Ole miss also had to hold off Tulsa, a 3-5 AAC team. Tulsa had the ball with under 4 minutes left with a chance to tie but couldnt do it.

Their defense struggled with bad Auburn, Vandy and A&M offenses as well.

Oregon and UCLA don't play much defense but neither does Ole Miss.
 
I was going to start a new thread about this next question. Thought the mod(s) might merge it here. So, now that the CFP Top 25 is done with round 1, question is:

What did they get right (ranked about right)? What did they get wrong (ranked way off)?

I'm saying that Clemson gets some benefit of the doubt because of their history of success in the CFP era. Similar to Ohio State, Bama, Georgia. Not saying it is right but that is the way it is. Committee members are human. They can say they check everything at the door but "names" matter because they can't erase the historical memory in their minds.

And I Reece said last night that those four have been in 19 or the 32 CFP semifinal games...all having done so multiple times. Everyone else in the nation has the other 13.

I think this is a problem though.

They shouldnt be ranking teams based on past success, they should strictly be ranking them based on this season.
