GAME Usa vs ned 10am fox

-we still can’t break through a midblock
-we still get burned in transition
-we still operate way too quickly in possession and settle for bad chances

~USMT

The only hopeful thing with this team is they really are quite young. That being said, Berhalter is not the guy to get to the next level. He reminds me of Sark, he'll fix a problem but never progress past that point, and he's soft. Like limp D soft. That won't get it done and it will stop the growth of this team dead in it's tracks.
I've been around long enough to have seen the 'up and coming young team' thing more than once. It has all ended the same. They may punch through to the quarterfinals at some point, but that is their HARD ceiling and always will be.

I'll watch them in '26, but I will go in with the same expectations I always do and I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

We just aren't an elite men's soccer team.

I like soccer, European and International only. I watch the USA for what it is. It is Illinois, Vanderbilt, Washington State, Missouri, Michigan State, Tennessee and 99% of the other college football teams. So an analogy would be: Kind of like 99% college football teams not getting into the college football playoffs (which begin at semi-finals), might as well not even get fired up over those 99% since in a 100 years 99% of them won't make the playoffs and have no hope. Enjoy those 99% for what they are. But we get to play in bowl game...that is like a soccer friendly. Bowl games a bunch of consolation games...participation trophies..uh ok.

Yep.

Its fun to get excited about every 4 years and then we hit reality and get smoked.

Its all about the EPL and champions league to me. I don't watch a ton of the other Euro leagues.

The difference is the amount of USA players playing overseas in actual tough leagues for big clubs. While you make A great point about how our athletes play other sports. We have really never seen this many Mens team players play in actual tough leagues in Europe. While I don’t expect them to ever win it, it’s not impossible to think they could make the semis within the next two cycles. Many will be in their mid to late 20’s next WC and early 30’s in 30’. IMO knowing All this it’s not an impossible task to expect them to see 2 knockout stage games. Granted, it depends on matchups too. But I think we actually have some optimism given the clubs and players a lot of our guys play on.

*plops on couch, turnsn on tv*

Alllrighty then, 20 minutes until we're under way. I think we have a real chance at beating the Dutch, excited! *flipping channels*....wh-what channel is the game on, again? Fox, right?

I thought I was the only one calling out the pundits bullshit post-game yesterday. "We had our chances" " we fought hard in a close game"

Uh no.. we got beat like a drum. And having players that play on euro teams means shit if most of them are only getting role minutes of playing time. Don't even get me started on having to donate half their paychecks for equity.

Facts are facts...we are a pickleball nation.

i don't know much about soccer so this is just pure assumption

but i do wonder if USA's usage of colleges as a developmental program plays a role here. Europe doesn't do that, club teams in Europe have their own developmental program. and they start their players out fairly young

in the basketball world, you could make a strong argument that the top three players in the NBA right now are european.

Ohh it absolutely plays a role I would say. The college programs aren't just soccer imo. It's a bunch of different things, which is how it's massively different from Europe club teams. I look at Pulisic as a guide. Dudes from Hershey, 45 minutes from where I live and I don't even know if he graduated from high school. He went right to European soccer and he is imo our best player.

nah. People who follow soccer know it was a tactical dissection of the USMT. We've gone as far as we will ever go with the current coach

Pulisic is our best player. He's the only guy we have that can create a chance out of nothing.
