Did anyone see Ohio State made the CFP?

If Stroud gets lucky and gets drafted by the Lions -- we have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL, we have one of the best young WR's in Amon St Brown and we will have a healthy Jameson Williams next year.

I think he could be successful in our offense.

Agreed

Haskins got fucked with the Redskins though, they took him even though it was pretty clear they never really wanted him there. Can't help but think how things mighta been different if he went to another team out of the draft.
He came into the worst possible situation a rookie QB could come into. HC was fired like 6 games in, top 2 OL got hurt early, no real weapons and no guidance.

I kinda hate trick plays. The only one I can really remember working was against Michigan last year when a RB threw a TD pass to AD Mitchell, but they always seems to work against UGA
IMO trick plays usually only work when they are called at the right times and are total surprises. Some morons try to use them when they are behind late in the game. That ain't a good recipe.

Not a trick play but Saban's timing of the onside kick against Clemson in the NCG a few years ago was perfect timing IMO.

See, now what would be nice is if our QB would use his fucking legs (which he absolutely has the ability to do) to pick up a damn 3rd and 5 every once in a while instead of staying in the pocket. If he doesn't at least try 5-6 runs against UGA we probably will be lucky to score 14. Whoever the QB is next year had better be able to fucking scramble sometimes.
That's usually more effective against Saban's/Kirby's defenses. See Johnny Manziel types. Gotta be able to throw it a little though.

And Manziel had Evans so that helped.

Cardale Jones did just enough running against Bama in that Sugar Bowl to make somewhat of a difference. It wasn't anything spectacular but he showed he would take off and run tough for a 1st down. Made Bama at least have to think about him doing it.

With CJ you almost never have to worry about it.

To be fair, UGA has done a really good job of keeping running QB’s in check ever since Kirby got there. It wasn’t Jalen Hurts that gave UGA trouble in 2017, it was Tua coming in slinging it.

Which I don't think Day or CJ realize.

You don't have to run for 100 yards or pick up huge chunks, but at least make them have to account for you maybe taking off for a 5-6 yard 1st down gain.

On those short yardage plays teams can always just 100% focus on the RB because they know CJ isnt keeping it.

Too many guys have the "I've got to hang in the pocket" and not run to show the NFL guys I'm a pocket passer. That is changing somewhat but still lingers in college. Mahomes, Allen, Hurts, Burrows all run pretty well when necessary...and don't hesitate to do so.

The NFL now a days is turning into a league that will eat you alive if they know you are never going to run no matter what. You aren't gonna last long in the league if you try to force yourself to always stay in the pocket.

If they only run, I can totally see that because some of those running QBs can't throw it in the ocean if they are standing on the dock. And Saban/Kirby have always done pretty good in coverage IF they can get to the QB with only four. I was referring to those that can at least throw it a little AND run when needed.

You don't get very many QBs who are equally great passers and runners. People kind of get blinded the every so often when we do get that.

Most of the time "running QBs" are exposed as the average (or below averag) passers they are once they run into a team that's able to take their running ability away.

Anthony Richardson is a grand example of this. Guy is a trash passer. He's able to look ok when he can run around like crazy though.

Yeah, I never understood the NFL mentality of "You can't run in this league. You are going to get killed." Yet they want the QB to stand in the pocket until the last second and then release the ball right before a guy with a five yard running start and his hair on fired lays the guy out. Like he's not going to get injured that way.

Yep. And vice versa. If the defense knows the QB ain't going to run no matter what..............

Baker Mayfield wasn't really a very, very accurate passer. Probably why he hasn't made it in the pros. Not very many Heisman winning QBs make it in the NFL. Most were just damn good college QBs.

I think todays Heisman QBs are much better NFL prospects than guys in the past. The pre 2010 Heisman QB list is comical in the NFL

Outside of a couple Sam Bradford seasons and Carson Palmer, mostly guys who did absolutely nothing.

Lol yea funny enough the Lions are the best spot for him. He'd be screwed in Houston or Carolina.
Imagine hearing someone say they hope to get drafted by the Lions.

All NFL qbs are coming around to the fact that their best option every now and then is to take off. Hell, Matt fucking Ryan had a 39 yard scramble a few weeks ago against the Raiders

Yep. That's why Stroud is probably gonna struggle real bad. Unless whatever coaching staff he lands with is able to hammer it into his head early that it's ok for him to move around some.

I don't think it would have mattered with Haskins where he went. In the NFL, it is as much between the ears as it is talent. I think Haskins proved with flying colors, he didn't have it between the ears.

In college -- these QB's are playing in simplified version of a spread where they are making essentially one read and throwing. Rarely are they having to go thru progressions, especially the teams with the talent advantages.

It is why you usually see every QB struggle in their first year to get acclimated to the league. Those built in advantages they had in college are no longer there. They are learning new offenses, they are learning new defenses played against them and they are getting used to throwing to WR's that are covered and they have to throw them open.
