Tennessee Fans Can't Handle Their Liquor

I've been to Neyland just once (2012 vs. Alabama), and I had a GREAT time. Not a single negative thing. One thing I really liked was that the P.A. announcer made a point of reminding Veterans that they could salute the flag. I have only experienced that one other time (@ Minnesota this year for the Purdue game).

I was also at the 1997 SEC Championship Game (back before I gave up my annual tickets to the game), and I had a fantastic time! What a game! I was sitting next to a couple from Birmingham with their two kids. He and their son were Alabama fans, and she and their daughter were Auburn fans.

What is funny is one of the WORSE fanbases towards Tennessee is actually Vanderbilt fans. They are not much of them and they fall into three major categories:

1. Vanderbilt fans who also cheer for Tennessee (they are basically fans that like college sport and cheer for Vandy because they are local to Nashville but would probably be UT fans if they were in Nashville. I have a story bout this one).
2. Vanderbilt fans who hate everything related to University of Tennessee and will bandwagon on any team that is regularly beating Tennessee (i.e. Florida in 1990s, Alabama under Saban, I think they are jumping on Georgia right now)
3. Vanderbilt Alumni who are real fans

I used to go to the Tennessee-Vandy game every year when it was in Nashville as a kid because it was your chance to see Tennessee in Middle Tennessee. One year when Vanderbilt started winning, I saw a bunch of fans in front of me wearing orange and they took it off and had black and gold Vandy gear under it. No joke. They were Vandy fans from category #1 listed above.

They use the excuse that Tennessee fans will attack them at the game if they don't wear Orange lol. However, they are not afraid of Tennessee fans if Vandy starts winning.

Vandy has a lot of fair weather fans and they bandwagon on anyone that can beat Tennessee. They also brag about Academics when they lose even though most of them never went to Vandy and couldn't get in anyways.

Alabama fans have really been on another level of crazy this year. I think they were a little softer on Tennessee fans (as long as you didn't mention Fulmer) because they were beating Tennessee soundly on a regular basis. However, when Tennessee finally won a game, it was a major meltdown. I even saw Bama fans bandwagoning off Georgia's win over Tennessee.

Georgia fans have a special hatred of Tennessee. I remember when they beat us in Knoxville when I went to school there and they were the worse fan base out of all of them (Auburn came in at #2). I never really quite got it. @WhosYourDawggy references some bad Tennessee fans in 1990s, maybe that was the case. I always considered Alabama or Florida to be more of our rivals (and Kentucky. Arguably, Kentucky should be our biggest rivalry as we have played them more than anyone but they are usually not that good at Football. Last few years have been an exception). However, both Auburn and Georgia fans really want us to be one of their most hated teams so I guess we have that.

4. Those that insist there's a giant conspiracy to keep Vandy down while trying to sell you bitcoin. Amirite @HammerDown ?

Alex, I’ll take Things That Don’t Exist for 1000.

The idea there are Vandy fans that give a shit enough to be bad, ugly fans is absurd. We don’t really care about UT.

OP keeps talking about all these bad fan bases. Perhaps he needs to look in the mirror and understand that the other fan bases are simply responding to the asshole Tennessee fans.

I have followed college football for over 55 years. What I have found is the most fan bases are just fine, and poke fun at one another. Sure there are drunk assholes in every game, but for the most part people are just poking fun at one another at games, at school, at work, etc.

But the idea that of the very few Vanderbilt fans that actually exist, that they are a venomous fan base is absurd on its face. Hell we can’t even get people to show up to games, let alone care enough to be a bad fan.

The next time you decide to post about other school’s fanbases, stop and give a real good thought about how horrible some of your own fans can be. Then maybe it’ll make sense.

I can assure you that UGA fans don’t consider Tennessee to be a rival, but when TN fans talk shit, they’re gonna get it back and we’re more obnoxious. Don’t start none, won’t be none. And TN fans started chirping about UGA as soon as the Bama game was over

Several issues with this post.

1. The OP is an Auburn fan

2. I have NEVER seen the bold. Vanderbilt fans focus on Tennessee 24/7. I live in Nashville and I have been around Vanderbilt fans all my life. Curious question, do you live in Nashville? To be fair, the ones that I am talking about are probably the ones that just hate Tennessee Vols in general. Every school has the anti fans as well.

Yeah it is all in the eye of the beholder. I can totally see that but you also saw Georgia fans being obnoxious too. @WhosYourDawggy is correct. They all have them. You also have bandwagon fans that really aren't fans but post crap on internet. Anyone can make a screenname and post crap. I could get a new IP, come on here with a screenname such as TennesseeOWNSUGA and talk smack right now. This is why I sometimes give Alabama fans more of a pass because they have ALOT of bandwagon fans that are NOT true fans at the moment.

I think a lot of it too was the media attention Tennessee got after the Alabama win. SEC Shorts summed it up in this video right here at 3:30. It didn't help that the media kept referring to Tennessee as the next 2019 LSU.

A lot of UGA fans were likely more annoyed with the media than Tennessee fans.

I do think it is really silly/desperate to see a program that has been successful constantly deride and attack a fanbase of a team that has had a good season for the first time in years. I see a lot of Gamecock fans talking smack too but I just enjoy it. They have been through a difficult run, let them have their fun. It is more annoying to see entitled fanbases like Alabama and Georgia whine and talk trash.

Hey, if we can get a defense and find another Hendon Hooker, maybe we can be back. I think the defense and some degree offensive line is where having the top classes matter. You can grab QBs and WRs in portal, etc. but hard to get a full defense that can shut down teams.

Going back to OP, I don't see the hate for storming the field.

Y’all just gotta learn as a fan base to keep daddy’s name out of your mouths until you actually beat em.

This is why I am looking forward to going to 3-6-6 schedule. We have too many "rivals" or opposing fanbases. We can beat 4/5 of our hated teams and still feel like shit. Even when bad, it seems like Tennessee always has a bullz-eye on us lol.

Hey we own the SEC right now in Basketball :).

I am going to take heat for this post but Georgia had it very easy this season. They got Oregon in a matchup that was totally favorable to Georgia (I called it an ambush) with Oregon having a new QB and coach. Georgia was also familiar with how Dan Lanning coached and Oregon had to travel across the country.

They got a week off to prepare for a limping Florida team.

They caught South Carolina when they were shit. (Frankly South Carolina was shit most the season and just caught a Tennessee team with flaws and one that had a brain fart on defense for that week. I am not sure that I believe the story about the defense quitting but it was definitely a different defense without Jeremy Banks in the lineup. South Carolina also had a very good scheme and Spencer Rattler played the game of his life).

They caught an overhyped and overachieving Tennessee team in Athens in Georgia's "Superbowl" because it was the first top 10 team to come to Athens in a long time.

Compare that to Alabama who had to talk into road matchup after road matchup with a major bullz-eye on their back and actually caught most of their opponents when they were playing well (@Texas, Texas A&M at home without Bryce Young, @Tennessee, @LSU, @Ole Miss)

I won't argue that Georgia isn't the best team but the schedule was very favorable, especially when you look at the intangibles with all your matchups. I would say the back-to-back road wins over Miss State and Kentucky were the most impressive run because they could have been letdown/trap games for Georgia.

5 ranked wins, all by multiple scores.

And I assure, TN wasn’t near our Super Bowl. It was just another game against an inferior opponent who’s fanbase’s mouth wrote checks the team’s ass couldn’t cash.

South Carolina was coming off getting curb stomped by Florida when they beat y’all.

They beat Clemson the following week.

Alabama and Georgia were still the best two teams in the SEC. However, I seriously doubt Georgia goes undefeated if they had to play Alabama's schedule instead of their schedule. I also think Alabama likely goes 12-0 with Georgia's schedule.

I do think Georgia is better than Alabama and likely goes 11-1 with their schedule (they also don't have as many scares) but you have to be kidding yourself if you think Georgia didn't have a favorable schedule this year.

Also, to most Georgia fans, it was their "Superbowl". That is why they are still talking about it. Funny the obsession with a team and fanbase that were 3-7 just two season ago and went 5-7, 8-5, 3-7, 7-6, 10-2 over the last 5 years. That is the 5-year record of the team that Georgia fans are obsessed with right now and constantly trolling.

Considering we beat the shit out of the two best teams Bama played, I’m confident in saying we still go 12-0 with Bama’s schedule.

SCar came into the game against y’all with no momentum and laid the hammer down

You guys got both those teams in favorable situations. Alabama did NOT.

If you don't think that matters, look at the teams that had the intangibles against you: Missouri, Kentucky, and Miss State. You struggled in 2 out of 3 of those games without a majority of UGA fans in the stands and the game not being in your home state.

Scores were closer than the stats, Missouri was the only real struggle win of the season, and judging a team by its worst performance in a win is dumb.

HFA ain’t gonna completely flip a complete ass whipping.

I have to judge because it was one of you few true ROAD games all season.

Alabama played in some of the hardest stadiums. Georgia didn't have to go to Austin, Neyland, Baton Rouge, etc.

You want to see a fanbase go off, just go look at the UTjr fans blowing a gasket because Stetson got invited to NYC and Hooker didn't. You can't go to a social media platform reporting Heisman news where it doesn't get run over by whining UTjr fans. You don't seem to be able to see that your own fanbase brings these problems on itself.

Neyland might as well be @Georgia Tech. It’s a cake walk with no real HFA.

Starkville and Columbia, SC are tougher road environments.

UGA had a few turnovers against Missouri and then dominated the 4th quarter for the win. HFA is pretty overstated. The only true tough road games are going to stadiums where good teams play, and that’s just because you’re facing a good team. It’s tough to win in Athens and Tuscaloosa because good Georgia and Alabama play there, not due to the fan base

Hooker should have been invited but it should have been over Caleb Williams and not Stetson Bennett. People are down on Stetson because he looked bad at Missouri and Kentucky but he has looked great in most of the rest of his games.

I will be blunt, as good as Georgia is this year, take all the intangibles around Alabama-Tennessee leading up to game in Neyland (pretending Georgia has won 15-straight and is Tennessee's top historical rival), I don't see Georgia winning in that atmosphere. It was one of the most difficult atmosphere a team has had to play in with CFB.

Even LSU with Alabama was a tough atmosphere. Tennessee also played in Baton Rouge and it was night and day the difference between the two games. Alabama had a lot more difficult experience in Baton Rouge vs. Tennessee from an atmosphere perspective.

Loud and difficult atmospheres create false starts, turnovers, etc. Tennessee faced the same thing in Athens.

Looking at Georgia's performance shows the difference between playing home and away. I assume the rest of your post is just illogical trolling.

As stated, I don't see Georgia going unbeaten playing Alabama's schedule. I see Alabama going unbeaten playing Georgia's schedule. Who on Georgia's schedule beats Alabama? Tennessee doesn't beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa, I can say that already.

Considering the beat down TN put on LSU in Baton Rouge, that game wouldn’t even be a sweat for UGA, and Neyland has been a cakewalk for UGA for years.

It all comes back to coaching and the players mindset.

Bama might go undefeated against UGA’s schedule since a last second FG is within the points HFA can account for.

UGA is also rolling to 12-0 with Bama’s schedule too. It’s more likely Bama loses to SCar than it is for UGA to lose any game on Bama’s schedule.

Hell, Tennessee even had that overrated receiver that was supposed to be good when they played UGA and he was out against Bama

Exactly. Odds are they'll still be drunk from the night before so will just continue.
We had a bar that opened at 6 am for St Patty's Day on campus. There was a line around the building by 4:30 am to make sure you got inside. No time slot is stopping a college kid from getting hammered.
