Wisconsin reported to hire Phil Longo as OC?!?!

Yes, it's often far more passing than running, and traditional Air Raid calls for a deep collection of speedy receivers and offensive linemen who are quick and nimble (and not necessarily behemoths), which would theoretically require a recruiting shift at Wisconsin.

This is a quote from the Milwaukee Journal Sports Section regarding the hire. So it seems they are in line with my thinking too.
I think the write(Polzin?) is worried about seeing the return of Gary Anderson.

I agree, it's certainly an untraditional hire, but if they are ever going to elevate their ceiling, a move like this had to be done. Now they might be able to land a better caliber of QB play, and the same goes with WR's. Yes, it's a change of identity for sure, and yeah, I'd probably be a little worried what this will look like towards the end of the year, but I think it's a good hire. My guess is they land a really nice QB in the portal, and some good WR's. And make it try and work with the Oline they have now. Allen already tweeted he was staying, so they have a good RB1 already. If anything this will force him to become a better all around RB, which can only help his draft stock. Wisconsin RB's have been mostly busts in the NFL(Taylor being the exception) and James White who was very productive catching passes.

Overall, I like the hire.
Personally, I'd like to see Allen moved back to the defense. He doesn't have an NFL future as a RB

The o-line stuff is being overstated. When Patrino was at Arkansas they had one of the biggest nastiest o-lines of that period and they passed 70% of the time.

Auburn won a natty with a pretty big line running a HUNH offense.

Pass protection is so much easier and they won’t have to recruit different.

I'd just tell Allen to hit the portal and go to Michigan. We could use a physical back to pound the ball. He'd get plenty of carries over here. :)

I like Allen.

Oh, I like him.. He is a football player, but I'd rather see him at ILB.

This isn't a traditional air raid though. Look at @navamind 's post on page 1. It's much more balanced and in some instances his offenses have statistically run more.

They do run more, but they don't do it with a 245 lb running back. It will take them a couple years before they get the type of personnel they will want to run that offense.

NOOOOOOO. Are you guys really going to a 3-3-5? That is what Dick Rod did at Michigan. It made absolutely no sense at all in the B1G. Teams absolutely torched us. Every game turned into a track meet. I honestly don't see why people use that?
So our opponents line up with a fullback and two tightends and rush for 600yds per game.

Got the DC from Cuse, it worked in the ACC or not?
:noidea:

That's what Michigan was told. It worked at West Virginia. Then we gave up like 40 ppg during Dick Rod's tenure.

3-3-5, 4-3-5, 4-3-4 all depends on how many of ‘em are MFers! Hell, line up a 9-1-1 and you can’t stop the run with none of ‘em being MFers!

Yeah, that's true, so get another RB. Allen is certainly good, but nothing spectacular. And UNC's starting Oline was on avg 6'5, 315lbs. Wisconsin's was practically the same, with about am extra inch. So body type wise not that much different. Yes, scheme will be different, but coach them up and adjust. This isn't a true air raid offense.
