Outside of last year (2022) Nebraska's position isn't much different than it's been for a decade. They've typically been somewhere between #20 - #30 nationally, (i.e. Higher than other West teams) but still find a way to consistently lose to them for whatever reason(s).

2019: 17th
2018: 23rd
2017: 23rd
2016: 26th
2015: 30th
2014: 35th
2013: 22nd
Average: 25.7

Call it coaching. Call it on the players spending too much time on Xbox, Little Caesars Hot & Ready's, and Suzy Rottencrotch.
Whatever it is men's sports in Lincoln needs an enema.

Bo Pelini was certainly a douche, but he won 9 and 10 games because he was sending assistants into Lincoln bars, etc. looking for players consistently hanging out. He had little tolerance for lackadaisical BS.

Probably what led to the scrapbook players starting on the O-lines.
 
I do give credit to Rhule and staff for saving this 2023 class in just 3 weeks that had been consistently ranked in the 50s.

I'm already wondering how next year's class will look, when Rhule and Co. has a year to work on it.

I'd temper any expectations for overall record next season. i.e. Don't drink the Kool-Aid.

Rhule's first seasons at Temple (2-10) and Baylor (1-11) were steps back from previous season's coaches at Temple (4-7) and Baylor (7-6) respectively.

It was his 2nd and 3rd years where they started to shine.

I was more referring to the recruiting. I have absolutely zero expectations for next season. Wins would be great, but not shitting the bed in losses would be acceptable.
 
Temple recruiting class for 2012 (pre Rhule) was 74th

2013: 77th
2014: 69th
2015: 80th
2016: 59th

Baylor recruiting class 2016 (pre Rhule) was 40th

2017: 40th
2018: 29th
2019: 36th

Not much change in either of those places regarding recruiting rankings. Who knows where either would be now if he'd stayed there?

The difference seems to be putting the pieces together, getting players lined up right, and being disciplined in the systems. i.e. Executing.

The fact is.....

With Nebraska's recruiting rankings over the last 8-9 years compared to their division brethren, they should have been competing for Big 10 West championships as opposed to coming in last or 2nd to last.

That is the result of a failure in putting the pieces together, getting players lined up right, and players being disciplined in their systems. Likely players just putting in the bare minimums as well. Are they utilizing the training table (dining), the weight room, and the film room?
The weakness in Nebraska's O and D lines over the years has been glaring. Not just Big 10 play (see Georgia Southern).

I give Omaha Westside as an example....They don't have glaringly more talent than Creighton Prep or the rest of the Class A schools.
Westside is a SYSTEM.

Come fall conditioning (August) the elementary (Pop Warner), and junior high kids are out there on the Westside football field conditioning with the high school kids.
The elementary kids and junior high kids run the same base offense and defense as the high school kids. Therefore by the time those elementary and junior high kids get to the high school team they already know what they're doing. Those high school kids put in a lot of their own time (in the off-season without coaches) running 7 on 7 drills (playbook) and pushing each other in the weight room.
It's a system that's produced 2 state titles and 2 runner ups in the last 4 years. They've stomped mudholes into Creighton Prep who can literally recruit the best Omaha area talent. I know Prep recruits Omaha because my buddy's kid had his tuition paid by a neighbor to go to Prep to play baseball.

Nebraska was great when Nebraska high schools ran the same triple option the Huskers ran. We ran the same offense as Nebraska when I was in high school in the 70s. The vast majority of those Husker teams were Nebraska kids. Mainly skill positions were recruited out of state. Millard North still runs the triple option. That doesn't translate to what Nebraska's been trying to do and therefore the Millard North kids are not a good fit.

It would behoove Rhule and staff to get with these Nebraska high school coaches and get a system put into place mirroring what Rhule and staff want to do. That's how you get the walk-on program back up to speed. The walk-on's are literally non existent on the depth chart.

I agree with this somewhat, however, I have also heard Rhule talk about understanding how to flip things in one year. The fact that Casey is coming back and that he's hitting the portal hard makes me think we win more than some think. I'm not predicting a division championship or anything but I think 5 to 7 wins is definitely on the table.

He’s N…that is huge. Also says we are willing to play the NIL game with the big dogs, this is good news.
