Waffle House and college football success

About a month ago I made a quick trip to Orange from Lake charles. Crossing the Sabine River, the mile marker was 863. 863 miles from the Sabine River to the New Mexico border. mf! One of these days, I might try that trip. Highly unlikely, but I might. Maybe try to go to Vegas this summer. If I do, I'll head on down I-10 to El Paso and points west.
The stretch from Ozona to Fort Stockton is the worst part of I-10 IMHO. 111 miles of nothing but the Sheffield bridge!

Driving the length of California will take longer than driving the width of Texas.
Yeah, that is a long sucker as well. The East/West drive through Texas is a faster drive than the North/South one is IMO because it is all interstate. Texline to Brownsville takes forever.

Im beginning to think some of y'all have never actually had good food with claims that Waffle House and Dennys are "good"
It's a relative "good"

There is a Waffle House on High Street across from Campus.
Go get a pecan waffle and thank me later.
O-H!

Sitting in a booth at a truck stop on I-20 in Sweewater, TX after Christmas one year. Guy came in and sat in the booth next to me. Told the waitress, “I’ve been driving in this state all day. I’m going to be out of it by dark.” In good old oil field waitress fashion, she said, “Sweetheart, unless you have an airplane, you ain’t gonna be.”
That's the same waitress that when I asked for a bbq pork sandwich, she snapped back and said: "Where are you from Honey?" She was working outside of Odessa at that time! :)

Last time I was in Texas drive time was measured in long necks.

Those old oilfield waitresses were crusty as hell. They had to be in dealing with those customers. Heard a guy ask for a milkshake one day and the waitress tried to talk him out of it because she’d have to dig out ice cream that was frozen “harder than a honeymoon dick”. He still wanted one. When she brought it to the customer she put it on the table and said “I hope you choke on that bastard.”

We flew into Houston one time and spent like a week and a half driving throughout Texas. Still can't believe the size of that fucker.

I think realistically, driving through Georgia North to South is like 6 hours if you do it straight.
It takes longer to drive through Houston than it does to drive through any other southern state in the union.

I swear, every nation, not just every state in the US but every nation in the world, gathered the top 10% of their worst drivers and dumped them all into Houston.

I'm actually surprised it's still there. High street has changed so much

This.

What an astonishing phenomena when seemingly intelligent people who can eat whatever they want willingly choose to eat this trash AND they think it’s good.

Mindblowing. The only possible answer is that they’ve never had good food.

Yeah -- I don't gete Waffle House at all. I've never eaten it drunk though. I like Denny's, but I've never eaten it sober though.

I haven't been to a game there since the 2017 Army Game, so it might be gone now. Just thought it was funny. I like to eat at Hyde Park Steakhouse when I am in town. It's no Waffle House, but...

It's still there. A lot of High Street has become all fancified though.

Hyde park is fantastic

All SEC players have to do an internship as a Waffle House employee.

Austin TX^^^

WTH Longhorns? Y’all miss the memo?

Get something Fried at Denny’s sober for a real treat. No matter what you get it’ll taste exactly the same as the other things cause they change the fry oil like once a year.

It’s great drunk though
