EPL 2022/2023

I'm guilty of the same thing Levy and Enic are to an extent. Kane is like Dirk to me. I desperately want him to be a 1-club guy and desperately want Spurs to win something big with him. But, continuing to try to structure the team into a pseudo win-now club to appease the star player rarely works out in the long run.
Unless he moves on, I see Kane ending up like Alan Shearer, great player and goal scorer, will probably have a lot of goal/individual honors, but ultimately will end up trophyless. Yes I know Shearer has one PL with Blackburn, but I'm thinking of his time at Newcastle, they tried to build around a star player on a limited budget, and in the end got fuck all for it.

At least Spurs has a nice stadium now, but to be fair, the old White Hart Lane had it's charm, saw a couple of matches there.

That's basically what Kane is now already. Top all time goal scorer for Spurs and only 56 behind Shearer for most in Premier League history. He will have that record in about 3 seasons.

I'd love for him to break that record in a Spurs shirt, and desperately want him to lift some kind of trophy at the club. Even a Carabao Cup would be nice. But, Spurs are in a weird spot where they prioritize trying to get top 4 (they don't realistically have a shot to win the league) to enter the UCL (where they have almost no chance to win) and earn extra money. Meanwhile, the 2 trophies they have a decent shot at, they don't prioritize at all.

Frankly, im surprised its taken this long.

There is no doubt.

I'm not an "Enic out" guy, I think they've done a phenomenal job with the club overall. Incredible stadium, training grounds, etc. Sparkling finances. It's all great. They built an incredible foundation for the club to grow upon.

However, Levy (and Enic by association) have also hired win-now managers in Mourinho and Conte but not provided them with the players or necessary backing those managers need to actually win now. IMO, those managers need around $300M per season b/t the summer and winter transfer windows to succeed on the level they're used to. Spurs can afford to do about 1/2 that so what you get is this mismatch of managers who want to play a certain style or are used to working with a certain level of player but having to make due with what they've got. Levy and Enic have forgotten Spurs real identity and for that they must take the blame.

The irony is I fully believe the club has done all of this to appease their best player and convince him to stay, but selling him on and continuing the long term project they started with Poch would have probably been the best course of action. Now they're faced with doing that all over from scratch anyhow.
Looks like it might be Poch returning.

I won't complain about it, but not my first choice tbh. 2nd time around is never the same.
I would prefer the current Brighton coach, De Zerbi
They never should have gotten rid of Poch, he was building something there. They spent millions on Mourinho and Conte to basically be in the same spot they were when they fired Poch.

In hindsight i guess we can say that. The reality of the situation then was it was pretty clear Poch's time was up. The players were growing stale and his results fell off a cliff. A lot of that can be blamed on ownership at the time for not backing the manager.

In the 18-19 season, Spurs did not purchase a single player in any xfer window (they famously tried to haggle for Jack Grealish in the 2018 summer, but later in that window Villa got new ownership and no longer were willing to sell their star player. Spurs could have bought him for like $25m early on). Spurs had no cash and were in the stages of constructing the new stadium. They reached the UCL final that season, but that achievement masked their dropoff in league form. They went from 86 points in 16-17 to 77 in 17-18, and 71 in 18-19. The following summer the club spent over $100m in the summer to refresh the squad but were squarely in 14th place in the league in november when Poch finally got sacked. His time was up.

The club then decided they would go after proven winners at manager because they believed they had the squad assembled to compete for titles. They woefully overstated the player level, however. Their aging defense plus Dele Alli forgetting how to play football meant they would need a full rebuild project. They still need probably 3 high quality players to complete that rebuild IMO.

To be fair, he heads back to Italy every break anyhow. The most shocking part of the story is the use of Ryanair.
Lol. I was thinking the same thing. Ryanair about as low budget as they come.

Naglesmann now the odds on favorite to take the Spurs job when they officially sack Conte.

Levy and Spurs tried in the past to get Naglesmann, so the timing couldn't have worked out better for them.

Good luck with Nagelsmann. I still think he is a good coach but that Bundesliga 66% winning percentage is something to question with such a high priced (but in many ways flawed) roster, plus trouble with the board (can him and Levy get along), lack of integration for younger players (Musiala was brought in by Flick first), and grumbling veterans over playing time. Hopefully Spurs don't have as many drama queens as Bayern. Remember Bayern players turned on Ancelloti so Spurs players will probably be a breath of fresh air. But for Poch and Conte it did not.

Not sacked but Conte out.

It was always going to be "Mutual Consent". Just the way Spurs do things. Only surprising thing for me is that Stellini will stay on as acting manager until the end of the season.

Fully expect Spurs to go after Naglesmann and a few others as their top targets. Hopefully they have things sorted out quickly, don't need another confusing summer where they dont have a head coach until the very end.

We definitely have our fair share. I feel like Bayern and Spurs could have swapped coaches and been better off for it. Nagelsmann seems more like a project manager while Conte is definitely a win-now guy.

But if Bayern players couldn't handle Nagelsmann, there's no way they would be able to deal with Antonio yelling at them and drilling them every day. :pound:

They'd wilt under Conte...except maybe Kimmich or De Ligt.

Liverpool
Even worse Chelsea shutout versus Astin Villa?

Interesting note: If Man U falls out Top 4 and wins Europa and Chelsea (who ain't making Top 4) wins UCL, the 4th place team in EPL not going to UCL next year. Happened to Spurs I think in 2012. Could affect Liverpool/Newcastle/Spurs here.

Brendon Rodgers and Leicester part ways.

Didn’t he get them into Europe a season or two ago?

Liverpool isn’t making top 4 so we don’t have to worry about that.

Potter just got sacked at Chelsea. Rodgers rumored possibly to Spurs.
