New SEC Alignment

The 3-6-6 format gets rid of divisions. This is better than "pods" which was 4 pods where the 4 teams played each other in a round robin format. The "permanent rival" format is badass as it maximizes rivalries. If you look at the chart I posted above, you can see that this makes almost every traditional rivalry take place every year. In fairness you can't cover them all and be fair ... Auburn has 3 great rivalries with UF, UGA, and Bama - that's not fair. Bama has Auburn, UTjr, and LSU. If UTjr ever gets good any more, that would be tough.

I always want to play Auburn ... we've played them every year for a billion years. Don't want to lose that.

I initially preferred East and West but now the 3-6-6 makes the most sense because you only miss a team for a year and you get a home and away with every opponent every four years. Frankly, we would see SEC opponents more often under that schedule.

They can if they want to...except for the Big 12. They don't have any rivalries left except Kansas/K-State...if you call that a rivalry. Maybe TCU/Baylor.
I disagree with that a bit. The four remaining Big 8 schools and the 3 remaining + 1 new SWC schools have all been playing each other for a long time. I know from an Iowa State point of view, K-State, KU and Okla. State are all good solid rivalries in the sense that they have been playing each other for a long, long time. I know I particularly enjoy those games over the others. Just a matter of perspective!

East and West made a ton of sense when it started with 3 traditional powers on each side. it just got out of whack over time. I like the new format better too! Divisions ad Dinosaurs both start with "D". :)

You understate it when you say, "we would see SEC opponents more often." It's three times more often. We would play Bama every other year. We play them every 6 years as it is now. That's a huge difference.

That's my chart, or one that I pasted here. I am curious ... it's not like this is something out of the blue ... the 3-6-6 format has been discussed all over the place. What is it that you find off with that chart? If it's off anywhere, you guys have the toughest permanent rivalries and I don't think you will get UF. But I think you will find this chart, and this format, to be really close.
Auburn’s rivalries are my Issue. Auburn has had a tougher schedule than anyone else in the SEC since the first expansion and it’s time to fix that to something more equitable. We’ve paid our dues and them some.

I'd rather have it
Oklahoma
Texas
Arkansas
A&M
You guys realize you are talking pods, and that's not happening, right? You will play TX, ATM and Mizzou each year, but that doesn't meant they will play in the same 4 team pod. For example, Mizzou will likely get Vandy and Kentucky or something like that, and TX will get you, ATM and then Ole Miss or MSU.

I agree on that then. No way they give you UF, Bama and UGA. You will get one of the Mississippi teams or another bottom team.

Arky has too much pull for that draw. ATM and Mizzou don't have enough to get out of my suggestion and ou and Texas have fuck eyes at each other so that is how it plays out.

I think he means having those schools be part of the 3 permanent games every season.. nobody cares about Mizzu.. Ask any UT/ou/ark/aggy and they would rather face each other once a season than playing Mizzu..ever

Mizzou and Kentucky seem like natural rivals. That might be one to keep. I thought Mizzou, being more basketball centric, would have been a rival for Kentucky in basketball but even their basketball has been meh since they joined the SEC (in fact their football was better).

Mizzou was good with Gary Pinkel but they have been pretty average since Pinkel retired.

Still the best thing I’ve seen.

@WhosYourDawggy or @Wild Turkey

So most of SEC Schools still are have 4 OOC opponents for 2024. In fact, a couple even schedule a game after the OU and Texas announcement. Would they do a 4-8 schedule for 2024 or are the teams going to have to cancel an OOC game?

I am hearing conflicting rumors of both options.

They will cancel one of the crappy games. For example, you guys will keep NCSU, but lose one of UTEP, UTC, or Kent State.

We will keep Clemson and GaTech and lose one of Tenn Tech or UMass.

I am hearing Kent State for Tennessee because there is actually an out clause in the matchup where we can cancel that one and not pay a penalty.

Has it been scheduled? Dates are more difficult to work around than money.
